Raiders' Jason Witten retiring from football

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Jason Witten is retiring from the National Football League, it was announced Wednesday.

What It Means:

The 38-year-old has already left the game once before, spending the 2018 season as a color commentator for Monday Night Football. He returned in 2019 on a 1-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, the team he spent the first 15 years of his career with. In 2020, he played sparingly for Las Vegas and was set to be a free agent in March. Now, he'll sign a 1-day contract to retire as a Cowboy sometime this offseason. Foster Moreau figures to slot in as the No. 2 tight end behind Darren Waller going forward.

In his 17-year career, Witten had 1,228 catches for 13,046 yards and 74 touchdowns.
