Khalil Herbert expected to leap Damien Williams on Bears depth chart
Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert will likely be ahead of Damien Williams (COVID-19) on the depth chart once David Montgomery (knee) returns from injured reserve, writes Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic.
Fishbain believes Herbert will "be the first one off the bench" and that Williams, who missed Week 6 on the COVID-19 list, will likely have "more of a niche role as a pass catcher and on third downs" when Montgomery returns. Herbert turned 19 carries into 97 yards and a touchdown last week as Chicago's workhorse back. He will likely see a similar role in Week 7 if Williams remains out, though it will be a tougher draw against an elite Tampa Bay Buccaneers rush defense.
The Buccaneers are allowing the sixth-fewest FanDuel points per game to the running back position this season and they rank 4th in Adjusted Rushing Net Expected Points allowed per play. Among the 59 backs with at least 25 carries this season, Herbert is 13th in Rushing NEP per carry. He has a $6,000 salary on FanDuel in Week 7.
