Khalil Herbert ahead of D'Onta Foreman in Bears backfield
Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert is first and D'Onta Foreman is second on the team's first unofficial depth chart.
Herbert and Foreman are expected to compete for the starting job throughout the preseason, but the incumbent appears to have the early advantage over his new backfield mate. The Bears could still wind up using a committee, with Herbert as the primary runner and Foreman doing the dirty work in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Chicago also drafted Roschon Johnson in the fourth round and signed Travis Homer in free agency, so they may mix in on passing downs.
Herbert is the RB36 and Foreman is the RB47 in numberFire's preseason rankings. Our models project Herbert for 175.2 touches, 841.4 yards from scrimmage, and 5.31 touchdowns. Foreman is forecasted for 122.6 touches, 560.2 offensive yards, and 3.44 combined scores.
