Leonard Fournette drawing interest, ready to sign

Free agent running back Leonard Fournette has interest from multiple teams, reports Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

What It Means:

Fournette is "in great shape and will be ready to help someone down the stretch," per Pelissero. He was expected to visit the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday as a potential replacement for Ty Johnson, per a report, but Johnson is now staying and Fournette will sign elsewhere. The veteran back turned 28 in January and was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in February. Fournette has pass-catching ability and could land in a meaningful role on a contender looking to make an upgrade at running back. David Montgomery (ribs) is dealing with a long-term injury, so the Detroit Lions could be a potential landing spot for Fournette. The Buccaneers might also be interested in a reunion because they haven't been able to run the ball this season.

Fournette rushed 189 times for 668 yards and 3 touchdowns in 16 games for the Bucs last season, and he caught 73 passes on 83 targets for 523 yards and another 3 touchdowns. The volume was there, but Fournette's 3.5 yards per carry was the second-worst of his career and his only 100-yard game came in Week 1.
