McVay: Rams' Matthew Stafford (thumb) day-to-day with UCL sprain
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay told media members that quarterback Matthew Stafford suffered a UCL sprain in his right, throwing thumb and is considered day-to-day.
Stafford seemingly avoided a serious injury when he smashed the thumb on his throwing hand on the helmet of a Cowboys defender during the Rams' Week 8 loss, but it still seems like the veteran could miss a little time going forward. While Stafford has made a name for himself by playing through some painful injuries in the past, an injury to his right thumb could affect his passing game enough to force him to take a seat.
The Rams have a winnable game against the Green Bay Packers on the docket for Week 9, so they could theoretically survive without their Super Bowl winning quarterback for at least one week. The team would have to turn to either Brett Rypien or a practice squad option if Stafford can't go.
