Seahawks trade for Sam Howell
Former Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell was traded to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.
Howell will head to Seattle along with a fourth-round pick and a sixth-round pick. The Seahawks will send Washington a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick. With Drew Lock now on the New York Giants, Howell is expected to compete with Geno Smith for the starting job in Seattle, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. For the Commanders, Marcus Mariota is expected to back up whichever signal caller they select with the second pick in April's draft.
In 17 starts for Washington last season, Howell completed 388 of 612 passes for 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions.
