Dak Prescott: Tavon Austin 'not just a gadget' player for Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Tavon Austin is "not just a gadget" player, quarterback Dak Prescott said.
"I didn’t know he was as good of a receiver as he was and could run routes as well as he does, and catch the ball every single time,†Prescott said. “He’s a guy you can put out there, inside, outside and trust he’s going to get open.†Austin will be competing with free-agent signing Allen Hurns, third-round rookie Michael Gallup, Terrance Williams, and currently-sidelined Cole Beasley (groin) for targets on a wide-open Cowboys' depth chart. He had just 13 catches for 47 yards on 22 targets with the Los Angeles Rams last season.
Austin falls outside the top-100 receivers in numberFire's preseason fantasy rankings, as we expect him to catch 17.4 passes (30.1 targets) for 143.3 yards and 0.54 touchdowns, in addition to 86.4 rushing yards and 0.54 scores on 12.8 carries.
