NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Monday 1/28/19
A good chunk of you played daily fantasy football this year, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?
It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel, because it's a ton of fun. And our analysis and projections can help you win.
To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.
Goalie to Target
Laurent Brossoit ($8,500): The Winnipeg Jets are starting Brossoit against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night. Brossoit has pulled off five straight wins and made 182 saves across those victories. Winnipeg has yielded 38.2 shots per game in this span and the expectation is that the Jets' backup goalie could easily see that kind of shot load against Philadelphia. Matt Murray ($8,800) is the chalk play for Pittsburgh given his team's -240 odds on the moneyline.
High-Priced Skaters
Sidney Crosby ($8,800): Crosby was half expected to be over $9,000 here, but he's not. And with that, he could easily be 50% owned or higher in tournaments and cash games alike. New Jersey allows 3.88 goals per game on the road and is still without Taylor Hall. Also, Mackenzie Blackwood is playing in the AHL All-Star Game, which leaves Keith Kinkaid in net. Kinkaid has struggled mightily. He has allowed three-plus goals in six of his last eight starts and at least two goals to a team's top line. Claude Giroux ($7,300) or Mark Scheifele ($7,900) presents solid alternatives if one is brave enough to not play Crosby. Jake Guentzel ($7,700) is a nice stacking option with 13 real-world points in his last 9 games with Crosby.
Patrik Laine ($7,300): Laine is a high-danger risk play on Monday night. But he has shown signs of life lately with points in two of his last four games, and more importantly, the shots are coming back up (four per game in that span). Laine must be involved early in the offense or it is typically a long night for him. Blake Wheeler ($8,100) presents a safer choice, but for the goals Laine may be a risk worth taking. He has not scored a power-play goal in 10 games, but the chances have been there so he might break out on Monday night.
Value Skaters
Travis Zajac ($4,100): Zajac is almost all-or-nothing on the offensive end, but he may benefit from playing in the top-six on Monday night. His line may match up against the Evgeni Malkin line, which gives up over 12 high-danger scoring chances per 60 and negative possession relative to New Jersey. Brian Boyle ($3,600) is an intriguing play on Monday night; last time he was in Pittsburgh he put up a hat trick.
Brendan Lemieux ($3,300): Lemieux is as high-risk as they come against Philadelphia, but the Winnipeg forward has points in his last two games despite playing a combined 17 minutes. He fired seven shots on net in those two contests as well. The energy forward has a better shot than most realize and his price is low enough to consider him a punt play. Mikhail Vorobyev ($3.000) may be another punt play to watch as Philadelphia called him up on Sunday night for Monday's game against Winnipeg.
