NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 3/13/19

Connor McDavid and the Oilers are big favorites on tonight's three-game slate. Who else can we trust in DFS?

A good chunk of you played daily fantasy football this year, and I'd be willing to bet a significant portion have also tried out daily fantasy basketball and baseball. But hockey? Hockey?

It's time to give it a try over on FanDuel, because it's a ton of fun. And our analysis and projections can help you win.

To help, let's take a look at some goalies, high-priced skaters, and lower-priced players to target for today's slate.

Goalie to Target

Mikko Koskinen ($7,400): The Edmonton Oilers are projected to start Koskinen against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night. The Oilers' goalie has five quality starts in his last five games, including a 28-save effort against the New York Rangers in his last start. New Jersey can score some goals but can also allow four in any game in no time at all. Meanwhile, Edmonton has won five of their last six games while yielding just nine goals in those Koskinen starts. The Devils, who are fielding basically an AHL team, will be a bit gassed as they head in from Calgary, where they lost 9-4 on Tuesday. See if Jacob Markstrom starts Wednesday against the Rangers, as the matchup offers high save potential and elevated win possibilities. That could keep you from the chalk that should be Koskinen tonight.

High-Priced Skaters

Connor McDavid ($9,200): McDavid expects to have a great matchup against the worst road team in the NHL. The speed of McDavid combined with the double shifting of Leon Draisaitl is a 1-2 punch that the Devils are not capable of slowing down for 60 minutes. And basically, the center has averaged over 20 FanDuel points in each of his last four games. Among the high-priced centers, why not go with the best. Auston Matthews ($7,900) presents the second-best option on Wednesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks and has several stacking options at his side, including William Nylander.

Patrick Kane ($9,100): Kane gets a Toronto Maple Leafs squad struggling mightily to stay upright defensively. The Maple Leafs have allowed 15 goals in their last five games, which is bad enough, but they have also allowed 30+ shots in four of those games. Chicago and Toronto could set up a game stack of sorts as both teams are expected to score at least 2.75 goals, according to oddsmakers. This is all about the distribution of those goals. With Kane averaging nearly six shots a game over the past 11 contests, his floor is higher than ever. And with two more real-world points, the winger will hit 100 on the season. It could be a milestone night. Leon Draisaitl ($8,600) and Alex DeBrincat ($7,300) are excellent choices as well on Wednesday night.

Value Skaters

Blake Coleman ($4,200): Coleman exceeded value for the fourth consecutive game on Tuesday night against the Calgary Flames, but the forward figures to be very low-owned on Wednesday against the Oilers. The Oilers can give up some goals at times and have a penalty kill that is less than 75% even at home. The inconsistency follows their hot streak, which may be good for those who want to play New Jersey players. The Devils will be the most undervalued team on the slate, so if you want to go contrarian, that is certainly an option. The Blackhawks' David Kampf ($3,300) has value as long as he sees some time with Patrick Kane.

Brendan Lemieux ($3,900): Lemieux is high-risk because of his low ice time (12 minutes per contest), but he generates chances and shots in that limited time. He has 20+ FanDuel points in two of his last three games and is a major pest against opponents -- their middle-six units especially. The forward has some play-making ability and can drop the gloves as well, and it's that versatility that has kept him in the lineup. His ability to get to the front of the net has been a bonus. It was something he did not do enough in Winnipeg. Jake Virtanen ($3,800) is now getting top-six minutes for Vancouver and has four-plus shots in his previous two games.
