5 NHL FanDuel Values to Target on 2/6/20

An injury gives Jeff Petry an increased offensive role on tonight's slate. Who else checks in as a nice value?

If you follow the NHL, you already know all of the top players. Obviously, when playing DFS, those players will come at a high cost. In this article, we are looking to find the cheaper value plays to help you afford the superstars

Marcus Johansson, Center, Buffalo Sabres

FanDuel Price: $4,300

It is tough to really gauge what Marcus Johansson is at this point in his career. Although he's "just" 29, playing on a struggling Buffalo Sabres team has really killed his offensive numbers. He has just 6 goals and 22 points in 46 games and simply has not had the offensive impact since he left the Washington Capitals.

The positive here, though, is that the Sabres host the NHL-worst Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings have a league-worst penalty kill, successfully killing off just 73.2 percent of their penalties. Johansson plays on the Sabres' top power-play unit, and while their power play isn't great (18th), the mismatch here is.

Joonas Donskoi, Winger, Colorado Avalanche

FanDuel Price: $4,400

It is unfortunate that Joonas Donskoi is no longer playing in the top-six for the Colorado Avalanche, but he still gets some time on the power play, which is fantastic. The matchup is also great, as the Avs visit the Ottawa Senators.

The Senators are allowing 3.28 goals against per game, which is the fourth-worst in the NHL, while the Avalanche are scoring 3.69 goals per game -- tops in the NHL. Donskoi is having a career year, as his 30 points in 46 games are just 7 shy of his career high of 37.

Tyler Bertuzzi, Winger, Detroit Red Wings

FanDuel Price: $4,800

On the opposite side of the Sabres versus Red Wings matchup, Tyler Bertuzzi is in a fantastic matchup tonight. The Sabres are going to be rolling with a goalie named Jonas Johansson. He's lit up the AHL this season with a 2.19 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. However, he wasn't great even in the ECHL last year, so it's tough to know what to expect.

Bertuzzi has 17 goals and 36 points in 54 games, which is decent but not great. He still plays on the Wings' top power-play unit, even though they have the worst power-play in the NHL. However, the Sabres don't have a good penalty kill, either, as their 74.5 percent penalty kill ranks 27th.

Jeff Petry, Defense, Montreal Canadiens

FanDuel Price: $4,700

With Shea Weber on the injured reserve list, it is time for Jeff Petry to shine. He will man the top power-play unit for the Montreal Canadiens, which is always a benefit. Now, their power play is only average, as they rank 15th, but a 22nd-ranked penalty is not exactly something to be scared of.

Petry is having a career year at the age of 32, at least from an offensive standpoint. He's on pace for 49 points, which would top his career-best of 46 from just last season. His 194-shot pace also blows by his career-high in shots.

Quinn Hughes, Defense, Vancouver Canucks

FanDuel Price: $4,700

Since the All-Star break, the Vancouver Canucks' defenseman has three goals and five points in five games, which is impressive. This is a defenseman that absolutely needs to get on the scoresheet to reach value, as his 1.8 shots per game and 0.62 blocks per game are underwhelming.

Hughes quarterbacks the top power-play unit for the Canucks, and although they're on the road, they face one of the worst penalty kills in the NHL. The Minnesota Wild have a horrendous 74.0 percent penalty kill, giving Hughes elite upside tonight.
