3 Daily Fantasy Hockey Stacks for 3/6/20

When playing NHL DFS -- much like MLB DFS -- stacking is key. Having multiple players from the same team, who correlate together, can give your lineup upside and help you maximize potential points.

You can roster up to four players from the same team in NHL, and you should look to have players from the same forward line or power-play unit together. Shared ice time is the key, as it will maximize their ability to contribute to real-life goals with each other, ultimately leading to more fantasy points for us.

Generally, we don't see late scratches in the NHL, and the team's lines are confirmed at practice or before the game. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming off a gross game last night, but we should look them again today.

Getting shut out by one of the worst defensive teams in the league isn't a good look, but that is where the Maple Leafs found themselves last night against the Los Angeles Kings. They are on the second night of a back-to-back, but there's no travel since they are taking on the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks are also one of the worst defenses in the league. The Leafs can't possibly get blanked in two straight games -- right?

When it comes to the Ducks' defense -- or lack thereof -- they sit among the bottom eight in the league in Corsi Against, Expected Goals against, and the number of High-Danger-Scoring-Chances allowed per 60 minutes. The Leafs simply cannot get shut out by two teams who are this bad defensively. It'd be like losing to a team's emergency backup goalie, who is a zamboni driver. Not a great look.

This should lead us to the Maple Leafs' top power-play unit with Auston Matthews ($9,200), John Tavares ($7,300), Mitchell Marner ($7,400), and William Nylander ($6,300). This is one of the most expensive stacks on the slate, but they are also one of the best offenses in the league. If they can't get it done in this matchup, I'll declare them dead for the season.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have scored four or more goals in four of their last five games. Go right back to them tonight.

They are on the second night of a back-to-back, but they get to take on the league's worst team -- the Detroit Red Wings. This season the Red Wings have a -121 goal differential -- dead last in the league -- while the next team is at -49. I mean, that is just sad. The Wings' three defensive pairs are rated 31st, 30th, and 31st. With the Blackhawks being this hot on offense and the Red Wings being this historically bad on defense, you want plenty of Chicago stacks tonight.

The Blackhawks' first power-play is cruising right now, and the four forwards have a total of 17 points and 56 shots in their last five games. The issue is that the four players are spread among the first three forward lines, meaning it lacks full correlation. You should still look to stack Patrick Kane ($7,900), Jonathan Toews ($6,500), Alex DeBrincat ($4,600), and Dominik Kubalik ($5,800). They have an amazing matchup you shouldn't be passing up.

St. Louis Blues

The defending Stanley Cup Champions are doing their thing and riding an eight-game winning streak.

The St. Louis Blues are locked and loaded this season, holding down the number-one seed in the Western Conference and looking to extend that lead with a win over the New Jersey Devils tonight. The Blues are carrying a 3.11 implied total and should be able to hit that and possibly push past it versus a weak Devils defense, one that has the sixth-worst Expected Goals against per 60 minutes. The Devils are a team we've attacked all season, so there is no reason to stop now.

The first forward line for the Blues has full ice-time correlation -- on the first power-play together -- giving us the maximum potential upside you want in tournaments. It also helps that these three players aren't too expensive. I'm not saying they are cheap, but they are affordable to stack and leave you some flexibility. Ryan O'Reilly ($6,700), Jaden Schwartz ($5,600), and Brayden Schenn ($6,200) are the three players to target as they are hot right now with 18 points in their last five games.
