3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for 3/29/21

In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for up to date line information.

We kick off the week with a seven-game slate that has some good teams to stack.

Philadelphia Flyers

It's not been a good stretch for the Philadelphia Flyers of late. They're 3-6-1 in their last 10 games and have allowed 44 goals in the stretch. Luckily, those goals allowed won't hurt in our stacks.

Also lucky for us is that the matchup in this game is much easier than the previous in 10 games. The Flyers will take on the Buffalo Sabres, who are currently on a streak of 17 games without a win. Buffalo has now allowed the third-most goals per game in the league. This is a great bounce-back spot for the Flyers, so let's see which players we can roster to exploit the matchup.

The Flyers had to change up their lines after their recent play. Sean Couturier ($7,400) is the team leader in points per game and has been one of their more consistent players this season. He's played most of the season with James van Riemsdyk ($5,600) at even strength and on the power play. Van Riemsdyk has struggled of late but still leads the team in points with 31.

They are now joined on a line by Travis Konecny ($5,600), who was the team's leading scorer last season. He hasn't been as good this season but is starting to play better with eight points in his last 10 games. These guys play together on the power play, as well, so you get the full correlation by playing all three. Shayne Gostisbehere ($3,700) is also the power play quarterback, and he's only $200 above the minimum salary for defensemen.

Philly has an implied team total of 3.19 goals tonight. That's one of the higher totals on the slate, which means we'll want pieces of them tonight.

If you wanted to play a Flyers line that won't break the bank and can be used as a filler stack with another expensive line from a different team, you could try the third line. Jakub Voracek ($6,200) isn't cheap, but his linemates are in Nolan Patrick ($3,200) and Oskar Lindblom ($3,500). Voracek and Patrick play together on the power play, and while he hasn't shown it this season, Lindblom was scoring goals last season before having to leave the team due to his cancer diagnosis. This is a solid secondary stack that will allow you to play other stacks that we will talk about next.

Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche have been scary good of late. They haven't lost in regulation in their last 10 games and often dominate the games they play.

One of those dominant games came against Monday's opponent, the Anaheim Ducks. On March 16th, these two teams played, and the Avalanche doubled up the Ducks in a high-scoring 8-4 game. Colorado really controlled the pace of the game, as they had 76 shot attempts and 36 scoring chances, according to Natural Stat Trick.

Over their run in the last 10 games, they've become the force we expected them to be, as they lead the league in expected goals per 60 minutes. This makes their star players some of the best plays of the night.

The main player we always like to target on the Avalanche is Nathan MacKinnon ($8,900). He was quiet after a tough two games against the Vegas Golden Knights, but before that, he had three points in three of his last four games. Mikko Rantanen ($8,500) has taken his scoring to a new level this season, as he currently ranks third in the league in goals with 19. Gabriel Landeskog ($6,800) seems like the least appealing option of these three, but he does have five goals and nine assists over his last 10 games, which matches MacKinnon.

As usual, this trio will play together at even strength and on the power play. Three players as talented as these guys sharing the ice means this is one of the most dangerous stacks on a nightly basis. Add in Cale Makar ($5,900) on defense, and you have another offensive weapon to play in this stack.

The Avalanche will take on a Ducks team that has allowed the fifth-most goals per game. They also are on a road back to back, having played yesterday in St. Louis. It's all set up well for Colorado tonight, as they are huge -350 favorites and have an implied team total of 3.49 goals, the second highest on the slate. They are definitely a stack to prioritize tonight with how well they are expected to do in this matchup.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs pulled a win out of the fire on Saturday. They were down 3-1 in the third period before launching a comeback that saw them win 4-3 in overtime. That was against the Edmonton Oilers, who they will face off against tonight, as well.

Toronto has fared well in the season series against Edmonton, winning six of the eight games and scoring 29 goals in the season series. They had their way in the game on Saturday, with 31 scoring chances compared to just 14 for the Oilers. They definitely could have a similar performance tonight.

After some down games, we finally saw what we were looking for from Auston Matthews ($8,300). He had a goal and an assist, along with seven shots on goal. His underwhelming fantasy outputs over the last two weeks have lowered his salary to make it well below MacKinnon and Connor McDavid, but it should be back up there.

Mitch Marner ($7,400) has changed his game a bit of late. He has always been thought of as a pass-first winger, but he has 41 shots on goal over the last 10 games. This makes him an even better fantasy asset than he was before.

Joining them on the even strength line is Zach Hyman ($4,400). He has been effective in the past in this spot and is fourth on the team with 11 goals this season. Hyman won't play on the first power play unit, but Morgan Rielly ($5,200) will. He's second on the team with 11 power play points, so he's definitely worth adding into a stack.

Toronto's implied goal total is 3.51, the highest on the night. Playing against the Oilers means this game could turn into a track meet, and if the Leafs need to be in comeback mode again, that's actually pretty good for fantasy, as we saw on Saturday night. The combination of Marner and Matthews is always dangerous, so we'll want to get them into our tournament lineups on Monday night.
