3 NHL FanDuel Values to Target on Wednesday 12/8/21

Damon Severson and several other Devils get a supreme matchup with the struggling Flyers on Wednesday. Who else is worth a look in the bargain bin on FanDuel?

Spending lower in any daily fantasy lineup is a way to incorporate some diversity into your roster. In NHL DFS, there is typically more value in this strategy but also a good deal more risk. This is especially true on tonight's slate where there are lots of lower-salaried plays. Plugging in these options will afford you more chances to play some studs as well.

Let's dig up some value on Wednesday night.

Morgan Frost, Center, Philadelphia Flyers

FanDuel Salary: $3,500

The Morgan Frost experiment in Philadelphia has been an interesting one so far. In six games, he has a goal and two assists, and the pivot does not look out of place either.

The Flyers' center has a solid matchup against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night. New Jersey has struggled almost as much as Philadelphia of late. New Jersey has given up three-plus goals in four straight, and the Flyers have given up three or more in five straight.

Frost also saw 2:35 of power-play time on Monday night against the Colorado Avalanche. Both teams love shooting the puck, and Philadelphia often finds itself trailing and firing pucks (47.95 Corsi For Percentage; eighth-worst in the NHL). Also, Frost's speed could definitely be an issue for New Jersey's flat-footed defense.

Frost is seeing second-line ice time at even strength with no penalty kill time. Even without the power-play duties, that is a great scenario for him on Wednesday night.

Vasily Podkolzin, Wing, Vancouver Canucks

FanDuel Salary: $3,800

With Bruce Boudreau now coaching in Vancouver, expect the offense to take a tick upward. The Canucks scored four times on Monday night, including two on the man advantage en route to a 4-0 win. Vasily Podkolzin played more than 15 minutes in that tilt and picked up an assist.

There is the inevitable risk of a low floor because, anecdotally, Podkolzin sometimes misses shots on easy opportunities. However, there are definitely enough flashes of potential for the Russian to warrant a roster spot on Wednesday.

He has five goals on the season, but those have been mostly in a bottom-six role. He's now on Vancouver's second line with Elias Pettersson and Conor Garland.

The Canucks have some under-salaried options on Wednesday night as a result of the shifts, so take advantage of them while you can.

Damon Severson, Defenseman, New Jersey Devils

FanDuel Salary: $4,100

The New Jersey Devils' defenseman is enjoying a nice little run in fantasy hockey as of late.

Damon Severson has three or more shots on goal in his last three contests and has real-world points in consecutive games.

He averages nearly 22 minutes per night and has an excellent matchup to pad his shot totals against the Flyers. Philadelphia's 247 high-danger chances allowed are the sixth-most in the NHL, and as mentioned with Frost, the 6.0-goal total in this one is a game to target.

Severson plays with Andreas Johnsson on the second power-play unit, and Johnsson is tied to Jack Hughes on his even-strength line. The Devils make for an interesting value stack likely against the perpetually-struggling Carter Hart.
