3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Monday 1/10/22

The Washington Capitals have some players returning to the lineup, which makes them an interesting stacking option tonight. Which other teams should we look to stack on this slate?

In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.

We've got three games still standing on this Monday slate, but we can still find some stacks we like tonight.

Colorado Avalanche

Many people's preseason favorites for the Stanley Cup, the Colorado Avalanche are demonstrating why. They've won 4 games in a row and 9 of their last 10. Their offense has been devastating, averaging 4.32 goals per game, well ahead of the second-ranked Florida Panthers' 3.89 per game average.

The Avalanche have been getting production throughout the lineup, but of late, they've been getting most of it from the top line.

Nathan MacKinnon ($10,400) has been white-hot, with 24 points in his last 13 games. Mikko Rantanen ($9,500) delivered a big performance in the team's comeback win on Saturday, as he had four assists. He's been on a similar path as MacKinnon with 21 points in his last 10 games.

With Gabriel Landeskog testing positive for COVID, this line will have a new member. It likely will be Andre Burakovsky ($6,000), who has had success playing with the top unit before.

Colorado will face the Seattle Kraken tonight. The Kraken have struggled in their inaugural season, sitting second to last in the Western Conference. They've allowed the third-most goals per game in the league. They've also been out of action since January 1st, and we've seen teams struggle defensively after long layoffs.

The Avalanche are obviously in a good spot here, and fantasy players will know it. A way to get unique would be to play Nazem Kadri ($9,800) with them, who most would view as having too high of a salary. He leads the team with 44 points and plays on the top power play with the first line. Cale Makar ($7,200) is another option, as he continues to lead all defensemen in goals with 15.

Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals have managed to remain in contention despite many lineup absences this season. Now, they'll have most of their team fully healthy and ready to go. This should make them a dangerous stack tonight.

The first line has seen a revolving door at right wing this season. It looks like T.J. Oshie ($5,500) will be in that spot tonight, returning to the lineup after missing the last three games. He'll also play on the top power play unit, making him a solid value at this salary. Evgeny Kuznetsov ($7,800) has slowed down a bit since his hot start, but he still has 34 points in 33 games this season. Alex Ovechkin ($10,200) has yet to score in 2022, but he's only played three games and continues to get lots of shots, with 55 in his last 10 games.

It's never an easy matchup when going against the Boston Bruins, but this top line should be capable of scoring against any team. Washington is favored at home tonight, but the matchup may have people shy away and stick with stacking Colorado. This is a good pivot off the most popular stack.

Whenever we stack the Capitals, John Carlson ($6,700) is always a good option to use with them. He's third on the team in points and fourth in scoring among defensemen. He's a key part of the power play, so he's definitely the best fourth option on the team.

Nicklas Backstrom ($6,800) also will be back, and his playmaking helps the power play overall, even if he isn't a clean stacking option with the other forwards.

New York Rangers

The New York Rangers have been one of the surprise teams in the league this season. Some were expecting an improvement, but not many would have had them as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. They'll get a boost with an important player returning tonight.

The Rangers' top two lines are both stackable. Mika Zibanejad ($7,200) has been in good form of late, with seven goals in his last 10 games. He ranks seventh in goals since the start of the 2019-20 season. He's playing with Chris Kreider ($7,500), who leads the team with 21 goals. Kaapo Kakko ($4,000) has been a good member of this line and has chipped in with an assist in each of the last two games.

The second line will welcome the return of Artemi Panarin ($8,400), who had 13 points in the 10 games before he went on the COVID list. Ryan Strome ($5,800) will welcome him back the most, as he had some nice games without Panarin but is certainly a better player when they play together. These two combine with Zibanejad and Kreider on the top power play, which ranks ninth in success rate this season.

The Rangers will face the Los Angeles Kings tonight. The Kings have played decently of late, but the Rangers have a few things going for them. They will face Calvin Petersen instead of Jonathan Quick, who has certainly been the better goaltender this season. Los Angeles also has a weak penalty kill, the sixth-worst in the league.

A big part of that power play is Adam Fox ($6,800), who leads all defensemen in assists and is tied for the lead in points for blueliners. He can be used with any of the two lines because of the power play correlation.

It's unlikely this stack gets too popular, but they are definitely capable of having eruption games.
