3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Wednesday 1/26/22

In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.

Five games on the ice on Wednesday, so let's see which teams we can stack.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames broke the slate on Monday night. They went off for seven goals while not being very popular. They will likely be given more attention tonight but have the upside needed to make them a good team to stack.

We know the drill when stacking the Flames. We want to stack up the first line that is correlated on the power play.

Johnny Gaudreau ($8,900) had a goal and three assists on Monday and leads the team with 48 points. Matthew Tkachuk ($8,500) had five assists in the same game, as the team's leading goal scorer turned into a playmaker for at least one game. Elias Lindholm ($6,400) had just one goal, but now his salary is way lower than his two linemates. This line has produced the most goals at five-on-five this season and has a great matchup tonight.

The Flames will face the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus got off to a decent start to the season but have been bad of late. They are 3-7 in their last 10 games and have allowed the fourth-most goals per game.

Calgary's top line has shown the upside needed to win tournaments, and tonight could see something similar. They have an implied team total of 3.38 goals, which is healthy enough to consider them one of the best stacks of the night.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Despite blowing some leads lately, the Toronto Maple Leafs are cementing their status as a contender in the Eastern Conference. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and sit sixth in points percentage. They've decided to shake up their lines to get more balanced scoring, and it makes for interesting stacking options tonight.

We've seen the first line of Auston Matthews ($10,100), Ondrej Kase ($5,500) and Michael Bunting ($4,900) over the last two months when Kase has been healthy. They've had some success when playing together, as a play driver like Kase playing with a superstar in Matthews makes for a solid line. None of these guys will play together on the power play, so the correlation isn't totally clean.

The second line is also an option to stack. John Tavares ($8,100) is having a good year with 36 points in 37 games but has been struggling of late. That's why Mitchell Marner ($6,400) has been added to his line in an effort to get Tavares going again. Ilya Mikheyev ($5,500) is the third member of this line and has been quietly very good, scoring six goals in nine games played this season.

The Leafs' power play ranks as the second best in the league, so you'll probably want pieces of that. The first power play consists of Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and William Nylander ($8,000), who is now on the third line. The second line is the only one that even has any even strength and power play correlation among the forwards. If stacking the Matthews line, Morgan Rielly ($6,300) makes sense to add to it because he will be the defenseman on the power play.

Toronto is at home against the Anaheim Ducks tonight. The Ducks were a good story to start the season, but their play has slipped of late. They also allow the sixth-most expected goals per 60 minutes in the NHL. Toronto's implied team total is one of the highest of the night, so getting some of their players in your lineup is a good route to choose tonight.

Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals are in a slump. They've won just 3 of their last 10 games and now have fallen into a wild card spot. They've dealt with many injuries and COVID situations but could bounce back here tonight.

The Capitals have decided to switch up their lines. Alex Ovechkin ($10,200) is now playing with Nicklas Backstrom ($6,200), and the two have linked up for many goals over the 14 seasons played together. Conor Sheary ($5,100) is playing right wing on this line and is having a decent season with 10 goals and 9 assists. With John Carlson ($6,400) out of the COVID protocols, he is a great fourth addition to this stack, as he will be on the power play with Ovechkin and Backstrom, with the puck on his stick a ton.

Washington will face the San Jose Sharks at home tonight. The Sharks have been a middling team all season and now will be without Erik Karlsson until March. That's a blow to a defense that already allows the seventh-most shot attempts against per 60 minutes.

This is a spot for the Caps to get back on track. They are currently -220 favorites and have an implied goal total of 3.54, so the first line definitely is a stack to use tonight.
