3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Tuesday 2/8/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside, as if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists as well. Ideally, we'll want players that will get a lot of ice time together on an even strength line and a power play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
We've got our first real slate after the break, so let's see which stacks we can use tonight.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes have been one of the best teams in the league this season. Their .756 points percentage is the best in the Eastern Conference. Their 3.47 goals per game is fifth in the league, and they should be able to score some goals tonight.
The Hurricanes had to switch up their lines last night due to some missing pieces. Sebastian Aho ($9,200) played with Martin Necas ($4,500) and Jordan Martinook ($3,600) at even strength. Necas was also on the first power play with Aho and had an assist and five shots on goal. He's an ascending young player getting his shot on the top line, so he's a solid value for $4,500.
The Canes' second line is also in play. Andrei Svechnikov ($7,500) is second on the team in points behind Aho. He plays at even strength and on the power play with Vincent Trocheck ($5,900), so the two form a nice pair to play together. You can also play Tony DeAngelo ($6,500) with either stack, as the defenseman will correlate with the four forwards on the top power play. DeAngelo has 35 points, good for third on the team.
Carolina remains in Canada to face the Ottawa Senators, who also played last night. Despite Ottawa winning, they allowed 74 shot attempts to the lowly New Jersey Devils. This was nothing new for the Senators, as they allow the most shot attempts per 60 minutes in the league. That doesn't bode well for them against Carolina, who are fourth in shot attempts per 60 themselves.
Carolina's implied team total is the second highest on tonight's slate, and their salaries are definitely reasonable. This makes them a top tier stack on Tuesday night.
Washington Capitals
It hasn't been smooth sailing of late for the Washington Capitals. They have fallen into a wild card spot after spending most of the season in the top three in the Metropolitan Division. They'll get a chance to get back on track tonight with their main man back in action.
The Capitals will welcome back Alex Ovechkin ($9,900) after he missed one game due to COVID. Evgeny Kuznetsov ($8,000) will be his center, and he has four points in his last three games. Conor Sheary ($5,100) is a competent right wing who won't just be a passenger on this line. John Carlson ($6,600) is third on the team in scoring behind Kuznetsov and Ovechkin, and he correlates with them on the power play.
Washington will play the Columbus Blue Jackets at home tonight. January was a rough month for Columbus, as they won five of 14 games and allowed more than five goals six times. Overall, their 3.67 goals allowed per game is the second-worst mark in the NHL.
The Capitals have the highest implied team total tonight, as it is hovering close to four. Ovechkin has the potential to break any slate that he is on, so building a lineup around him and his linemates definitely makes sense.
Vancouver Canucks
We haven't wanted to stack the Vancouver Canucks many times this season. They got off to a rough start to the season but have been able to turn things around under new coach Bruce Boudreau. Tonight, they'll get one of the best possible matchups.
The Canucks' lines have been moving around a ton all season. Their first line tonight has their leading scorer, J.T. Miller ($7,400). He's a point-per-game player, and no one else on the team is even close to that benchmark. Brock Boeser ($6,000) is third on the team in goals and will play with Miller on the power play. The last piece of this line is Tanner Pearson ($5,400), who can add some offense at even strength.
The reason we can go to the Canucks tonight despite their production not being too impressive is the matchup. They'll face the Arizona Coyotes at home, who sit at the bottom of the Western Conference and allow the third-most goals per game. Vancouver's implied team total is up to 3.27 goals tonight because of this matchup.
A defenseman you can add to Vancouver stacks is Oliver Ekman-Larsson ($4,500), who has two things working in his favor. First, this will be his first game against his former team since being traded. More importantly, he should inherit the first power play job with Quinn Hughes out of the lineup tonight. He's a good option at this salary.
