NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Ville Husso ($8,000): The St. Louis Blues are going to be a chalky team tonight as -235 road favorites versus the Philadelphia Flyers. Husso has been an absolute stud in net for the Blues, holding the league's best goals-against average (1.97) and the second-best save percentage (.936) this season. This has led to him picking up the win in eight of his last 10 starts while allowing two goals or fewer in six of those starts.
The Flyers' offense is only scoring 2.22 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 11th lowest this season. With the strength of Husso in net and the lack of offense from the Flyers, we should see the Blues come away with a win and fantasy points for Husso.
High-Priced Skaters
Auston Matthews ($10,000): The Toronto Maple Leafs got embarrassed last night versus the Montreal Canadiens. Losing to the worst team in the league -- who were on the second night of a back-to-back -- is a bad look. There's really no other way around it. Luckily for the Leafs, they get to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are allowing a league-worst 3.35 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. This is the ideal spot for an offense to turn things around, and that means we want to be focusing on the top unit for the Leafs.
Matthews has 16 NHL points and 40 shots on goal in his last 10 games but no points in each of his last two games. He has the second-most (33) goals in the entire league, and he's simply in too good of a spot to pass up. His anytime goal prop (-105) is also worth considering tonight considering the matchup, along with his role on the first forward line and the first power-play unit.
Kirill Kaprizov ($8,800): The Minnesota Wild have a juicy 3.82 implied goal total tonight versus the Ottawa Senators and bring plenty of fantasy upside. Kaprizov has been on fire as of late with 15 NHL points and 37 shots on goal over his last 10 games. That level of production is something we could certainly see from Kaprizov tonight because the Senators are dead last in the league in Corsi Against (60.69) and allowing the 13th-most goals (2.53), both per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.
Ideally, you should stack Kaprizov with Mats Zuccarello ($7,700) since they are both on the first forward line and the first power-play unit. The correlation of shared ice time gives them a nice fantasy ceiling to reach for in a favorable matchup.
Value Skaters
Mason Marchment ($5,600): The Florida Panthers are the best offensive team in the league, and any time you can get exposure to their offense, it's a good thing. That's right, the league's best offense lies in Florida and is scoring 3.51 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. They get production up and down their lineup, so looking towards Marchment for a bit of value is a viable option. He skates on the third forward line and the second power-play unit, coming in with 16 NHL points and 28 shots on goal in his last 10 games. The Panthers have a 3.76 implied goal total and should be viable in all formats tonight.
Brandon Saad ($4,800): The Blues have mixed up their forward lines, and we now see Saad up on the first forward line, a clear jump in his offensive role. Saad had been on the third line for a bit but now, an expanded role on the first forward line should make him a clear value option considering he is still on the second power-play unit. A modest 8 points and 16 shots on goal in his last 10 games can be built upon with a favorable matchup versus a weak Flyers defense tonight.
