NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Thursday 2/24/22
NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.
Goalie to Target
Linus Ullmark ($8,200): Ullmark has already been confirmed as the starter for the Boston Bruins, who come in as -225 road favorites versus the Seattle Kraken. Ullmark has struggled as of late, giving up three goals or more in three of his last four games, as well as losing each game. But this is a chance for him to bounce back because the Kraken are only scoring 2.15 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the seventh-lowest in the league. We also see the Kraken allowing the fourth-most goals (2.98) in the same situations, putting the Bruins' offense in a great spot and hopefully carrying Ullmark to a win.
High-Priced Skaters
Jake Guentzel ($8,700): The Pittsburgh Penguins are big -285 home favorites and hold a 4.00 implied goal total, which is the second-highest on the slate. This is a very straightforward spot for the Pens. They are taking on the New Jersey Devils, who are allowing 3.28 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league. Simply put, the Pens -- who have the fifth-most points in the entire league -- should not be losing this matchup at home to the Devils.
This means we want to look to the top scorers for the Penguins, and that would be Guentzel, who has 12 NHL points and 39 shots in his last 10 games. He skates on the first forward line and the first power-play unit with Sidney Crosby, which would make a great two-man stack tonight.
Aleksander Barkov ($9,100): Barkov and the Florida Panthers are staggering -465 home favorites against the Columbus Blue Jackets, giving us one of the most lopsided matchups you can imagine. The Panthers are scoring 3.52 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the best in the league. On the other side, the Blue Jackets are allowing 3.33 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league. See? It's a really lopsided matchup in favor of the Panthers.
We should see plenty of scoring from the Panthers tonight, and that leads us to Barkov, who has 13 NHL points and 36 shots on goal over his last 10 games. He has five multi-point games over his last 10 and a total of 45 NHL points in 38 games this season. His role on the top line and the top power-play unit put him in a spot to reach for his fantasy ceiling tonight versus a horrible defense.
Value Skaters
Ilya Mikheyev ($4,800): With a 6.5 over/under, the Toronto Maple Leafs versus Minnesota Wild matchup is a spot to look for some offense. Speaking of offense, these two teams have scored the third- and fourth-most goals in the entire league, setting things up for an offensive showcase. While there are great top-tier players to spend up for in this matchup, we can find value with Mikheyev, who is on the third forward line and the second power-play unit. He only has 4 NHL points and 24 shots on goal over his last 10 games, but the overall game environment and the potential for scoring are massive in this matchup.
Frederick Gaudreau ($4,800): Gaudreau is another option from the Wild versus Leafs game tonight and another player bringing a bit of value to your lineups. A surprising 8 NHL points in his last 10 games is solid for a player under $5,000, not to mention that he has 21 shots on goal and 9 blocked shots in that span. A strong offensive role on the second forward line and the second power-play unit continue to put him in a spot to rack up fantasy points, something we should see plenty of in this game environment.
