NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Monday 2/28/22

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com or DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in to take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.

Goalie to Target

Jeremy Swayman/Linus Ullmark ($8,100): The Boston Bruins are slight -128 road favorites versus the Los Angeles Kings and are in a spot to come away with a win. The Kings are a very average offensive team, scoring 2.45 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations (16th in the league). The Bruins are in the top half (2.33) of the league for the fewest goals allowed in the same situations, so it's no surprise to see the Kings coming in with a slate-low 2.66 implied goal total.

Swayman has been strong in net for the Bruins, allowing three goals or fewer in each of his last nine starts. Since Ullmark isn't too far behind (three goals or fewer in six of his last nine starts), whichever starts is a good option and offers a bit of safety compared to the other goalies on the slate.

High-Priced Skaters

Auston Matthews ($10,300): With a small three-game slate, it's tough to pass on Matthews -- arguably the best offensive player in action tonight. Matthews has 17 NHL points, a staggering 48 shots on goal, and 7 blocked shots in his last 10 games. He has the most goals in the league (37), the fourth-most points (68), and has surpassed 30 FanDuel points in three straight games. His role on the first forward line and the first power-play for the Toronto Maple Leafs continuously brings him a high floor and a massive ceiling.

The Leafs come in with a slate-high 3.44 implied goal total against the Washington Capitals, where the over/under is sitting at 6.5 goals. Both teams are in the top 11 of the league for the most goals scored per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, so yeah, we're going to see some scoring tonight. This is a spot for a potential game stack and plenty of fantasy upside for both teams.

Brock Boeser ($6,400): Besides having some of the best hair in the league, Boeser has the best matchup on tonight's slate. He's going up against the New Jersey Devils, who are allowing 3.22 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations. That's second-worst in the entire league -- and the worst among teams on tonight's slate.

Boeser has 8 NHL points and a modest 24 shots on goal in his last 10 games. Given his role on the first forward line and the first power-play unit for the Vancouver Canucks, we'd like to see that shot volume a bit higher to increase his floor of points, and the matchup against the Devils should help enable that tonight.

Value Skaters

Yegor Sharangovich ($5,400): With a 6.5-goal total for the Canucks-Devils matchup, this is a spot to look for some offense. There's a good amount of value on both sides. The Devils' recent games have ended with at least seven total goals in five of their last seven, and the Canucks' matches have ended with at least seven goals in five straight. We could see plenty of scoring tonight.

Sharangovich has a role on the first forward line and the second power-play unit, which has led him to pile up 10 NHL points and 20 shots on goal over his last 10 games. A point-per-game player who is only $5,400 is tough to find, but that's what we have with Sharangovich in a game that is primed to have some action.
