Toronto Maple Leafs vs Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets (+190): 3-Star Rating out of 5

The Toronto Maple Leafs are often the center of attention in the hockey world.

They have been of late, but not for good reasons. They've only won five of their last 12 games. The goaltending has been the worst in the league in 2022, which is a recipe for disaster.

The Leafs will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight. It's been an interesting stretch of games for Columbus of late. They won 7 of 10 games in February and look to continue to make a run towards the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

Patrik Laine has been on fire with 15 goals in 15 games. He looks like the guy who scored 44 goals in his second season and was on his way to being an elite sniper once again.

Toronto is going with Petr Mrazek in net tonight. Mrazek has not been good this season, allowing 7.94 goals above expected this season. Columbus is not a team that will generate a ton of chances, but with players like Laine, Oliver Bjorkstrand, and Boone Jenner shooting the way they have this season, they don't need a lot of shots to score.

Columbus beat Toronto on February 22nd. The Leafs will now be without Ondrej Kase at forward and Rasmus Sandin on defense. Sandin's absence (along with Jake Muzzin being on IR) makes the Leafs' defensive group fairly thin.

The Jackets are getting good odds at home against a Toronto team that has not been playing well of late. This makes taking the +190 a reasonable bet. Our model rates this three stars (i.e. -- three units) out of five, so it's worth putting some money down on this tonight.
