4 NHL FanDuel Studs to Target on Tuesday 3/29/22
Spending up in any daily fantasy lineup is how to get the superstars and the highest upside players in your lineup.
In NHL DFS, it’s different from paying up in sports like NBA or NFL. Someone can be one of the highest salaried players at his position and put up a total dud of a performance, and paying that much for him would be a huge mistake. Let’s make sure we are paying up in the right spots when building our lineups tonight.
Tuesday night presents us with nine games on the slate. Let's take a look at some studs.
Auston Matthews, Center, Toronto Maple Leafs
FanDuel Salary: $10,200
The Toronto Maple Leafs' center is on the road, and yet, we still do not care on Tuesday night.
When a player is scoring at a rate of 0.8 goals per game and shoots like Auston Matthews does, he must be rostered everywhere. The pivot is on a nine-game real-world point streak. That translates to a whopping 11 goals in that span.
Some fantasy experts argue that this is not sustainable, but Matthews had several runs in the past two seasons of 15-plus games where he has 15 goals. The last game against Boston Bruins was buoyed by Matthews, who helped lead Toronto to a 5-2 win.
The Maple Leafs' center could easily top 20 FanDuel points again tonight. It will be more about who to roster around Matthews tonight.
Kirill Kaprizov, Wing, Minnesota Wild
FanDuel Salary: $9,600
The wing position is fully stocked on Tuesday. There is an excess of wingers to choose from.
So, the Minnesota Wild are likely in the best position from a home standpoint. It does not hurt that Kirill Kaprizov is one of the hotter wings in the NHL right now.
Kaprizov has 4 goals and an assist in his last three games with 14 shots on goal and 18 scoring chances. The winger even has a couple of blocked shots just to add to his floor a bit more.
Philadelphia also allows 35.1 shots per game on the road and 3.47 goals per game overall. The Flyers will still try to play at an elevated pace, which feeds right into the speed of Minnesota's top line.
For alternatives, there are John Gaudreau and Filip Forsberg. After all, it is just that kind of night.
Roman Josi, Defenseman, Nashville Predators
FanDuel Salary: $7,300
The Nashville Predators have an excellent matchup against the Ottawa Senators, who should come in with quite an effort after the passing of their owner, Eugene Melnyk.
It does seem the more Roman Josi is pushed, the more FanDuel points he produces. Josi has 20 or more FanDuel points in seven of his last eight starts. That included five straight games where he had 30-plus FanDuel points.
Josi's floor just keeps on expanding. He is averaging four shots a game in the past 13 games and more than two blocked shots a night. This is elite-level production.
Ottawa allows 3.25 goals per game and averages 10 penalty minutes per night (27th). That could be a recipe for more Nashville goals and Josi scoring chances.
Yes, Roman Josi is the top choice. Do not overthink this one.
Marc-Andre Fleury, Goalie, Minnesota Wild
Marc-Andre Fleury is slotted in a nice spot on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Flyers. This is familiar territory for him considering his days when he was in Pittsburgh.
With his first win as a member of the Minnesota Wild under his belt, Fleury should be settled into his new home. In that game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the goaltender stopped 23 of 25 shots for the win.
Minnesota seems to have found its footing after a rough patch defensively and from a team goaltending standpoint.
The Wild have a 72.7% chance of winning tonight, according to our model, and an expected differential of 1.32 goals. That is a nice cushion.
Fleury may also be a little less rostered tonight, too.
