3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Thursday 4/21/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside -- if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well.
Ideally, we want players who will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
The regular season is wrapping up, and this 11-game slate is one of the last large slates we have left. Let's look at some stacks we can use on it.
Florida Panthers
The Florida Panthers have played in a way that fans of offense have wanted to see. They love to play high-tempo and attack with all four lines trying to score. It has resulted in them being the best offense we've seen in decades, and now they are in an all-time great spot tonight.
The only issue with rostering Panthers players this season is that it's hard to pinpoint where the goals will come from. Well, the good news tonight is that they've changed things around, which makes things easier to stack.
If you played Aleksander Barkov ($9,700) on Tuesday, you got a hat trick from him. To get the most points available from playing Florida, you would have needed Jonathan Huberdeau ($9,600) with him. They weren't playing on the same line to start the game, but they ended on the same line and will continue that in tonight's game. Sam Reinhart ($6,600) will also join this line, forming a trio that will also be together on the power play.
If you want a more affordable line, you could stack the second line. It has power play correlation between Claude Giroux ($6,300) and Anthony Duclair ($6,000). Sam Bennett ($6,400) is the center of this line and isn't just a passenger with his 27 goals on the season.
The Panthers will take on the Detroit Red Wings at home tonight. Detroit has been one of the worst defensive teams we've seen in recent years. They've allowed at least six goals in 14 games this season. They just allowed six when these teams played on Sunday, and they could easily get lit up for six or more again tonight.
Florida has an implied team total of 4.77, an astronomical number that is likely the highest of the season. The upside they have in this game makes them worth considering in every lineup you make tonight.
St. Louis Blues
The St. Louis Blues are an intriguing team this season. Some people may be surprised to learn that they are fourth in goals per game with 3.74. They don't have the high-end production like some other teams do, but they have 11 players with at least 40 points, making them one of the deepest scoring teams in the NHL.
What has become the Blues' top line is on an incredible run. Vladimir Tarasenko ($8,500) is enjoying a career renaissance and has 10 goals and 10 assists in his last 10 games. Robert Thomas ($6,200) has turned into an elite playmaker with 14 assists in his last 10 games. Pavel Buchnevich ($6,500) has also been playing great with this line, as he has 18 points in his last 10 games. This line is also playing together on the top power play unit.
The second line is also fully correlated. Ryan O'Reilly ($5,500) is having a bit of a down year offensively but is still able to contribute. David Perron ($6,500) is third on the team in goals with 26 in just 63 games played. Brandon Saad ($4,800) quietly has 22 goals and is a good value for just $4,800. This line is an alternative to the top line, as it uses less salary and will likely be less popular.
St. Louis will be going up against the San Jose Sharks tonight. The Sharks continue to just play out the string of a lost season and have just one win in their last 10 games. They will continue to be without Erik Karlsson on defense, leaving their group without a lot of depth.
The Blues are implied to score 3.72 goals tonight. They were on a 12-game streak of scoring at least four goals before a tough matchup against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, so they are definitely capable of exceeding that total.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes are tied at the top of the Metropolitan Division. If they to want win their first division title since 2005-06, they'll need to take care of business in a matchup like they have tonight.
Carolina got the win we were expecting on Monday, but the production didn't come from either of the top two lines. They've decided to make a switch after those games and go back to their lines we were used to seeing.
The Finnish duo of Sebastian Aho ($7,900) and Teuvo Teravainen ($6,000) are back together on the top line as well as on the first power play. Seth Jarvis ($4,600) is also on this line, and the rookie has been solid when playing in a top-six role.
You could also stack the second line, with Vincent Trocheck ($5,300) and Andrei Svechnikov ($7,200) playing together here and on the power play. Svechnikov is second on the team in goals and points and is one of their most dangerous players.
With either stack, Tony DeAngelo ($5,900) makes a lot of sense, as the defenseman has been one of the most effective power play quarterbacks this season.
Carolina is at home to face a fading Winnipeg Jets team. The Jets will be without their number one center, Mark Scheifele, and their top goalie, Connor Hellebuyck. On the season, Winnipeg allows the sixth-most expected goals per 60 minutes.
The Hurricanes have an implied team total of 3.88 goals, the third-highest on tonight's slate. Winnipeg really has nothing left to play for and Carolina does, so the motivation mismatch could cause the Hurricanes to pile on in this game.
Others to Consider: Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens
