3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Monday 10/31/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside -- if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well.
Ideally, we want players who will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
On Halloween, let's try to roster some stacks that will be sweet treats and not ones that will be too scary to look at when the slate is over.
Buffalo Sabres
The Buffalo Sabres have had a recent run of good matchups that have seen them get a lot of play in DFS but with mixed results. Last time out, they rewarded fantasy managers who played them, and their first line changed in the middle of a comeback win.
We saw the Tage Thompson ($5,600) from last year on Saturday night. He had two goals and an assist to go with his second straight game with eight shots on goal. Jeff Skinner ($4,900) added two assists in that game, as well, and remains at an affordable salary. The newcomer on this line is Kyle Okposo ($4,200), who also added two assists in the comeback.
These reduced salaries allow you to also possibly fit in Rasmus Dahlin ($7,900), who has 10 points in eight games on the blue line.
Buffalo will take on the Detroit Red Wings at home. Detroit allowed 12 goals in three games last week, and it looks as if their defensive issues from last season are not completely solved. Buffalo has the highest implied team total on the slate, and the first line offers a ton of value to fit in other stacks.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes got trounced 6-2 on Friday night. It wasn't good news for the fans, but it was good for fantasy managers because it made them shake up their lines. Now, the lines make for much cleaner stacks.
There have been three forwards who have clearly been the best contributors for fantasy. Martin Necas ($6,000) actually leads the team with 11 points. Andrei Svechnikov ($9,900) leads the team with seven goals and already has one hat trick this season. They've been bumped up to the first line to play with Sebastian Aho ($9,100) and will also link on the first power play.
On defense, Brent Burns ($6,400) has goals in back-to-back games and is a good option to use in this stack if you can fit him.
Carolina plays in a divisional matchup against the Washington Capitals -- or at least what's left of the Capitals. They already had several injuries carrying over from last season and now will be without John Carlson on their top defense pair. Washington is an average defensive team by almost every metric but could struggle against this Carolina team without their ice-time leader.
Carolina is the biggest favorite on tonight's slate, and this fully-correlated line stack looks like one of the best options on Monday.
St. Louis Blues
The calling card for the St. Louis Blues last season was their forward depth. They had nine 20-goal scorers, leading to them finishing third in goals. Things haven't clicked for them quite like that yet, but they still have enough depth to rack up the goals.
The Blues have two lines that each have three members of the same power-play unit. The first one has Brayden Schenn ($6,400), Ryan O'Reilly ($4,500), and Jordan Kyrou ($5,900). Schenn is tied for the team lead in points, and Kyrou is tied in goals. O'Reilly has struggled offensively this season but should get back up to speed playing with these players on the power play and at even strength.
The defenseman that interacts with these forwards is Justin Faulk ($7,600), who has been on fire to start the year and has just one game below 16 FanDuel points this season.
The second line is perhaps more attractive but also comes with higher salaries. Pavel Buchnevich ($6,600) returns from injured reserve after having his best season last year with 30 goals. Vladimir Tarasenko ($8,900) has been a point-per-game player to start the year. Robert Thomas ($5,900) is a good player who needs to be stacked because he tends to not shoot, and if he has a big game, it will be through assisting his linemates.
St. Louis will face the Los Angeles Kings at home tonight. The Kings have a reputation as being a great defensive team, but this season that hasn't been the case. They've allowed 4.10 goals per game, the fourth-most in the league.
This is a perfect opportunity for the Blues to start scoring again, and either of these two lines could connect on multiple goals.
