NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Wednesday 11/9/22

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.

Goalie to Target

Filip Gustavsson ($7,300): It's a tough slate for goalies since there are no heavy home favorites, so we turn to what could be the easiest matchup. This is where Gustavsson comes into play for the Minnesota Wild, who are -164 road favorites against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Ducks are one of the weaker offensive teams this season, coming in with a 49.91 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations (fifth-lowest in the league). They're right at the league average with 2.67 goals scored in the same situations, so they're an offense that doesn't present a ton of upside.

The Ducks' defense is also struggling this season, allowing the third-most (3.44) Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which should put the Wild -- and Gustavsson -- in a spot to win this game.

High-Salaried Skaters

Elias Pettersson ($9,400): The Vancouver Canucks are coming off a large, six-goal outburst last night and will look to continue that versus the Montreal Canadiens tonight. They carry a solid 3.53 implied goal total and are looking much more consistent on offense after a slow start to the season.

Pettersson is doing his part to help push the offense and comes in with 8 NHL points, 19 shots on goal, and 6 blocked shots over his last five games. The Canadiens are allowing 2.51 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is 18th in the league -- and frankly not that bad. However, the Canadiens lead the league with 185 penalty minutes through 13 games.

This volume of penalties puts the opposing teams' offense in a great spot since they are often playing with the man advantage. With Pettersson on the second forward line and the first power-play unit, the chances will be there for him to rack up the fantasy points and continue his strong offensive streak.

Kirill Kaprizov ($9,800): Kaprizov received a match penalty last night and was ejected from the games against the Los Angeles Kings, but he should be in action tonight. He comes in averaging nearly four shots on goal per game while skating on the first forward line and the first power-play unit. This has led to 13 NHL points in 12 games -- slightly below the 1.3 NHL point-per-game pace he set last year.

With a soft matchup against the Ducks' defense on tap, Kaprizov should be in his normal role of pushing towards four or five shots on net while bringing immense goal-scoring upside. I mentioned the Ducks above, so with their defense struggling, stacking Kaprizov with Mats Zuccarello and Matthew Boldy is a solid option tonight.

Value Skaters

Sam Reinhart ($4,700): In what could be the fantasy game of the night, the Carolina Hurricanes are visiting the Florida Panthers. The game total is set at 7.0. Since the start of 2021, these teams have played 11 times and we've seen six-plus goals in 8 of those games.

This shouldn't come as a surprise since both teams have been at the top or near the top of the league in Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created) in the last several seasons. This season is no different; the Panthers are number one in the league, and the Canes are number two. Constant offensive pace and pressure allows for immense fantasy upside.

Reinhart has been underproducing goals this season relative to the shot production he has. He's posted a total of 40 shots this season through 13 games -- or 3.0 shots on goal per game. But, that has only led to finding the back of the net twice -- both of which came in his most recent game! He was held scoreless for 12 straight games despite a high volume of shots. This back-and-forth game environment should allow for plenty of Reinhart shots.

Seth Jarvis ($4,800): Jarvis is another option from the Canes-Panthers matchup in a spot where we should see the goals flowing. Jarvis is on the first forward line and the second power-play unit, which is a very strong role for a player under $5,000.

He is off to a mediocre start this season but starting to heat up lately with three NHL points and eight shots on goal over his last three games. Jarvis is solid point-per-dollar option you can roll with in any type of lineup.
