3 Daily Fantasy NHL Stacks for Monday 11/14/22
In daily fantasy hockey, stacking is a key strategy in tournaments. We want to correlate our lineups with up to four players to maximize our upside -- if one player on a line is scoring goals, it's likely that his linemates are getting assists, as well.
Ideally, we want players who will get a lot of ice time together on an even-strength line and a power-play line. Two good resources for line combinations are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceoff.com, so be sure to check those sites for updated line information.
The main slate starts at 8:30 eastern tonight. It's only three games, but there are a few routes you can go when it comes to stacking.
Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche have hardly missed a beat despite injuries and absences from last season's Stanley Cup Championship run. They've won four games in a row and are third in goals per game, and their top line has been their key to success.
Mikko Rantanen ($10,200) was just named first star of the week in the league after putting up seven points in two games. His 23 points are tied with Nathan MacKinnon ($10,400) for the team lead, and they are both second in the NHL in points per game. These two are joined by Artturi Lehkonen ($6,300) at even strength and on the power play, so he's well worth adding on when stacking this line.
The Avs are at home to face the St. Louis Blues, who have been struggling mightily this season. They are 5-8-0 and have allowed the fourth most goals per game. They also rank fourth from the bottom in penalty kill success rate, which is bad news against the Avalanche and their lethal power play.
This stack is hard to fit into lineups, but it is worth it if you can because they have slate-breaking upside.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes are playing the style of hockey we've come to expect from them. They are fourth in shots on goal per game and stingy defensively. They have been a bit tricky to stack in the past, but their new lines have made it easier for us fantasy players.
The new-look first line for Carolina has their two best offensive players, Sebastian Aho ($8,600) and Andrei Svechnikov ($9,500). Svechnikov is third in the league with 11 goals and has two hat tricks already this season. Aho has 17 points in 15 games and led the team with 37 goals last season. Stefan Noesen ($4,800) got the bump up to the top line after seeing time on the first power play and is a solid value piece to add to this stack.
The second line is something you can use for value, as it includes two players with lower salaries. Seth Jarvis ($4,600) has been moved to this line from the top line. He's playing with the team's leading scorer, Martin Necas ($9,400). Now Jack Drury ($3,100) will get the bump up to the second-line center spot, and he is nearly the minimum salary.
Carolina is on the road tonight, facing the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago has been better than expected, but still well below average. They've allowed the third-most shot attempts per 60 minutes and will be without top defenseman Seth Jones for the foreseeable future.
The Canes' have the highest implied team total on tonight's slate despite being on the road. They are definitely worth trying to get exposure in tournaments tonight.
Los Angeles Kings
Many will look to the Calgary Flames as the third stack for tonight's slate, but we can pivot to the Los Angeles Kings for a few reasons. They have scored more goals per game than Calgary and will be less popular. We also get a full correlation for the Kings' first line, and this line is likely to stay together the whole game.
The first line is fairly affordable for the Kings as well. Gabriel Vilardi ($6,400) leads the team with 10 goals, as his late breakout has been a welcome addition to the team. Adrian Kempe ($6,000) is going through a bit of a slump but scored 35 goals last season and his salary is too low for his talent. Anze Kopitar ($5,600) is still a great playmaker at age 35 and can provide a boost to his two wingers. These guys all play together on the first power play.
It's a tough matchup against Calgary tonight, but they have allowed 3.21 goals per game this season. The Kings' top line may go overlooked and get underplayed compared to the other stacks on this slate, but they can connect on a few goals with all three involved given that they play together in all situations. They are certainly worth playing in tournaments tonight as a potentially sneaky stack.
You can also add Drew Doughty ($4,900) as a value defenseman who will get power-play time with the top unit.
