NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Tuesday 11/22/22

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters. Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate and some players to consider for your lineups.

Goalie to Target

Craig Anderson ($7,500): With only two games on the slate, let's take a bit of savings at the goalie position with Anderson of the Buffalo Sabres. Considering there is no team greater than a -118 moneyline favorite, things are a bit of a toss-up at the goalie position, putting all options in play. I'm leaning toward Anderson because he has the second-cheapest salary among the four goalies tonight.

Ultimately, the Sabres will be in a spot to win this game. They are up against the Montreal Canadiens, who are allowing the sixth-most (2.92) goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations this season. This is the simple scenario of the Sabres being able to pour in the goals rather than Anderson's own skill putting him in a spot to win.

High-Salaried Skaters

Tage Thompson ($10,400): The Sabres have a 3.19 implied goal total and could easily push past that against the Canadiens tonight. As I just noted, the Habs are allowing a lot goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, and opposing offenses should continue to thrive against them.

Thompson has been a stud for the Sabres this season with 22 NHL points and 84 shots on goal in just 18 games. The top-line center is providing a safe floor of points every night while maintaining a multi-point upside, especially in this type of matchup. The Sabres come in with a 58.47 Corsi For (Total Shot Attempts Created) per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 11th-highest in the league.

They are continuing to push the pace on offense, which will put their players in a spot for fantasy value each and every night.

Mika Zibanejad ($9,800): The New York Rangers are an offense that has been underproducing on offense and presents a bit of a buy-low spot. To this point in the season, the Rangers are scoring 2.27 goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the ninth-lowest in the league. However, if we look at their Expected Goals Scored (xGF), the Rangers are up at 2.84 goals, putting them as the eighth-best team in the league.

There is a clear differential between their current production and their expected production, and that's due to their strong shot quality and quantity. They have the ninth-best (58.78) Corsi For this season, a mark we love to see for consistent shot volume, giving them a solid floor of fantasy points.

Zibanejad comes in with 5 NHL points and 24 shots on goal over his last five games, which are tied for the highest and the highest on the Rangers over that span. His duties on the first forward line and the first power-play unit make him a strong option on a two-game slate.

Value Skaters

Brendan Gallagher ($5,000): The matchup between the Canadiens and the Sabres is looking like the better of the two games for fantasy production, so let's find some value here.

With both teams in the bottom 10 for the most goals allowed per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, we could be in for a higher-scoring game. This could present plenty of back-and-forth action and plenty of fantasy production for some of the value options, such as Gallagher.

Gallagher sees time on the second forward line and the second power-play unit, which has allowed him to rack up 6 NHL points, 28 shots on goal, and 5 blocked shots over his last 10 games. He may not have a massive scoring ceiling, but his clear point-per-dollar value will make him worth rostering tonight.
