It's been a rough 2018 for the Texas Rangers. They sit at 58-75 with almost no chance of making the playoffs. That makes them an easy target for Alex Wood, right?

Not so fast.

Over the past month, the Rangers have been smacking the heck out of the baseball, ranking sixth in team weighted on-base average (wOBA), at .334, and ninth in hard-hit rate, at 37.4%.

Over 132 1/3 innings this year, Wood is on pace to post his lowest strikeout rate since 2015 (21.1%) and the second-lowest rate of his career. In the mid-priced pitching range, Wood is one to ignore.
