5 Daily Fantasy Baseball Value Plays for 5/1/19
Ender Inciarte, OF, Atlanta Braves
Price: $2,500
The Atlanta Braves are at the top of the heap with a 4.89 implied total tonight as they welcome Cal Quantrill to the majors.
The San Diego Padres righty has never pitched a major league game, and while that doesn't automatically make someone worth picking on in DFS, Quantrill's minor league numbers don't exactly inspire confidence.
He made 22 Double-A starts in 2018 and only managed a 4.16 xFIP. He also made six Triple-A starts, with a 4.21 xFIP.
This season has been even worse for him over a small five-start sample, with an awful 4.80 xFIP. He didn't even manage an xFIP better than 4.00 in his stint at the High-A level, with a 4.07 over 14 starts in 2017. And now here he is against one of the more dangerous offenses in the majors.
Fittingly, you're not getting many Atlanta bats on the cheap tonight, which is where Ender Inciarte comes in.
A .290 wOBA and .308 in 2018 don't make him the most interesting fantasy option on a nightly basis, but he has shown to be capable against right-handed pitching, with a career .324 wOBA in the split.
He's also picked up his contact a bit recently, and after failing to top a 29.2% hard-hit rate against righties in any of his first four seasons, he posted a 31.6% mark in 2018 and is up to 33.3% in 2019.
Likely to be one of the Braves' only starting hitters priced below $3,000 tonight, "capable" is enough to put Inciarte in play as a way to get cheap exposure to their big upside.
