David Ortiz makes an appearance in this column every week, and it’s honestly tiring thinking of new superlatives for his 2016 performance. He’s 40 years old and playing the best baseball of his life.

It’s the middle of June and he already has 18 home runs with a 45.5 percent fly-ball rate and a 47.6 percent hard-hit rate. He’s been especially crushing righties with some insane numbers -- in particular, a .408 ISO and .484 wOBA.

He’ll face Miguel Gonzalez tonight, who has little chance of stopping Ortiz’s historic season. Gonzalez has allowed a .210 ISO and .357 wOBA to lefties this year with four homers allowed in just eight starts.

There’s no discussion right now -- Ortiz is the best first base option when he’s facing a right-handed pitcher.
