Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Adds: Week 21

With the calendar about to flip over to September, the baseball stretch runs are heating up -- and so are those fantasy races.

There are just a few short weeks left to make that last push for your postseason, so check out some waiver wire adds who may be able to put you over the top.

Here are two bats and two arms to target on the waiver wire. All players listed are owned in less than 50.0% of ESPN leagues.

Dinelson Lamet - San Diego Padres (SP)

ESPN Percentage Owned: 36.9%

Sometimes rookies post absurd statistics in the minor leagues, and we wonder if they can keep it up in The Show.

In the case of minor league sensation Dinelson Lamet of the San Diego Padres, he just keeps on dominating.

Ever since that major league debut, Lamet has dazzled with a dizzying repertoire of pitches. On the year, Lamet's fired 80.0 innings, and set down 29.5% via the strikeout.

This all comes despite the fact he had two blow-ups in his first four starts -- we're talking 14 earned runs over 8.0 innings pitched. His 3.78 SIERA shows he's been far better than his 4.84 ERA would indicate.

Lamet must continue to refine his command. As evidenced by his Sunday start against the Washington Nationals -- during which he struck out 8 but walked 6 -- his 10.6% walk rate in 2017 could become a major problem. But his juicy 12.7% swinging-strike rate shows his stuff is for real.

Patrick Corbin - Arizona Diamondbacks (SP)

ESPN Percentage Owned: 35.9%

Had I seen this video of Patrick Corbin dunking before my fantasy draft, I probably would have grabbed him with the first overall pick.

Okay, not really. Recovering from Tommy John surgery takes time, but he may finally be rounding into form. His 4.25 ERA over 144.0 innings pitched might seem pedestrian, but a deeper dive shows off how nasty Corbin has been recently.

Since June 1, Corbin's thrown 82 2/3 innings, allowing a 3.59 ERA and striking out 24.8% of hitters. It's been even harder to square Corbin up -- over that same time span, he's allowed only a 29.3% hard-hit rate, and he's giving up soft contact 21.3% of the time. Over a full season, that soft contact mark would rank Corbin 13th among qualified starters, making him well worth a long look

Cory Spangenberg - San Diego Padres (2B)

ESPN Percentage Owned: 34.9%

Let's stay on the left coast, where we can consider adding lefty Cory Spangenberg of the Padres to our rosters.

Recommending offensive players from a team that ranks 29th in team wOBA (.300) may seem a bit strange, but that's certainly no fault of Spangenberg's.

Since July 1, the Padres infielder hasn't just been okay -- he's been ridiculously hot. Over 162 plate appearances, he's hit .301 with an .898 OPS, 8 homers, a 30.2% hard-contact rate, and a 135 wRC+. He's also chipped in 3 steals over the same time frame.

PetCo checks in 55th out of 60 for lefties in terms of park factor, per Baseball Prospectus Park Factor by Handedness, making Spangenberg's run even more impressive.

Nicky Delmonico - Chicago White Sox (3B)

ESPN Percentage Owned: 6.3%

The South Siders are focusing on 2018, but 25-year-old rookie Nicky Delmonico of the Chicago White Sox has been focusing on today. And it's paying off.

In 67 plate appearances, Delmonico has posted a .450 wOBA on the strength of 5 homers and a 10.4% walk rate. Over the last two weeks, the rookie ranks 22nd in baseball with a .461 wOBA mark. Not bad, young pup.

His .288 ISO mark this season in the majors is probably a bit much to maintain, but his 17 homers in 454 plate appearances last year in the minors show the power potential is there. Hitting in a home yard that ranks 10th in park factor for lefties, Delmonico could make for a slick under-the-radar fantasy asset.
