Weekly Fantasy Baseball Sleepers: A Solution to First Base Woes

Week 10 is upon us, and this one is a toughie to find a group of good sleepers. Lot’s of names instantly came to mind, but their matchups weren’t even remotely favorable. After some serious schedule scouting and number crunching though, here are four guys that are still flying under-the-radar that should have big weeks.

Lucas Duda - 1B, New York Mets

First base is kind of a mess right now for fantasy owners, so anywhere you can find some assistance is a plus. Duda had a monster run last week, hitting .259 (7 for 27), with 6 runs scored, 3 homers and 7 RBI, raising his season average to .236. Duda has had his best success on the road against right-handed pitching this year, hitting .295 (18 for 61) with 5 doubles, a home run and 8 RBI. All of the Mets’ games are on the road this week, and they face six righties (avoid lefty Travis Wood). The one right-handed pitcher you may have to worry about is the resurgent Tim Hudson, but the rest of Duda’s matchups are cake. Look for him to have another very solid week.

Lonnie Chisenhall - 3B, Cleveland Indians

Chisenhall gets widely overlooked in the fantasy world due to his strict platoon status, as he’s only faced one left-handed starter all season. There’s nothing about his .369 average, .554 slugging percentage, .418 wOBA or 20th-ranked 2.71 nERD that should scare you away though. This season, Chisenhall is hitting .350 at home against righties, and .333 on the road against them. All but one game on the Indians’ schedule this week is against a lefty (Joe Saunders), so you’re looking at a guaranteed six starts for Chisenhall. Don’t let the matchups against John Lackey and Yu Darvish spook you either, as he’s coming in hot, hitting .375 with 3 homers and 12 RBI last week.

Wilson Ramos - C, Washington Nationals

Fantasy owners have been eagerly awaiting Ramos to return to form and get things going at the plate, and it appears he’s finally done just that. Over the last two weeks, Ramos is hitting .302 (13 for 43) with 4 runs, his first home run and 7 RBI. He also posted a .412 average (7 for 17) last week.

While it’s a limited sample, Ramos’ best numbers are against righties, which the Nationals face all week, with the exception of lefty Eric Stults. Ramos has favorable matchups against David Buchanan, A.J. Burnett, Kyle Kendrick and Tim Stauffer, so you should definitely get him in your lineup.

Khris Davis - OF, Milwaukee Brewers

Davis has finally gotten things going like the Brewers were hoping he would, especially over the last nine games, as he's hit .368 with 9 runs, 5 doubles, 4 home runs, 7 RBI and 4 walks, raising his season average to .258. The Brewers have a full seven-game slate this week against the Minnesota Twins (combined 10-18, 4.90 ERA between four starters) and Pittsburgh Pirates (3-13, 4.81 ERA). This is probably the last week people will be sleeping on Milwaukee Khrush, so you better get in now while you still have a chance at another huge week.
