4 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for 8/21/19
Some elite arms take the mound tonight, but that barely puts a dent in the stacking options on Wednesday's 11-game main slate.
Each day here on numberFire, we'll go through four offenses ripe for the stacking. They could have a great matchup, be in a great park, or just have a lot of quality sticks in the lineup, but these are the offenses primed for big days that you may want a piece of.
Premium members can use our stacking feature to customize their stacks within their optimal lineups for the day, choosing the team you want to stack and how many players you want to include. You can also check out our hitting heat map, which provides an illustration of which offenses have the best combination of matchup and potency.
Now, let's get to the stacks.
Boston Red Sox
The reason for their enormous total is struggling Phillies left-hander Drew Smyly. After flaming out with the Texas Rangers, Smyly joined the Phillies in July, and for a brief moment, it looked like he had figured things out with his new team, posting back-to-back strong starts against the Pirates and Giants.
The good times didn't last long, though, as he's looked like the same old Smyly in the three starts since, getting smashed for an 8.04 ERA over that span.
He now enters tonight with a 5.14 SIERA, 22.3% strikeout rate, and 11.7% walk rate for the season, and home runs have been his biggest issue, allowing a whopping 2.81 per nine innings. His Statcast numbers fail virtually across the board, with his xwOBA and xSLG both wallowing in the fourth percentile.
Smyly has struggled against both sides of the plate, so everyone in the top half of the order could go off tonight between Mookie Betts ($4,400), Rafael Devers ($4,600), Xander Bogaerts ($4,000), and J.D. Martinez ($4,200). Sam Travis ($3,000) and Christian Vazquez ($2,800) represent solid values lower in the order, too.
With Boston starter Rick Porcello also enduring a rough campaign, you might also want to take a look at a Phillies stack on the other side as well.
