3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Players to Avoid on 8/28/19

Jose Altuve is enjoying a strong 2019 campaign but should be avoided in his matchup against Ryan Yarbrough on Wednesday.

While we have plenty of pieces geared towards guys you should target in your DFS contests, it's also important to narrow down your shortlist of plays and avoid the suboptimal ones who are overpriced and/or in tough spots.

Let's check out three guys to consider fading on tonight's FanDuel main slate.

Max Scherzer, P, Washington Nationals

FanDuel Price: $11,400

On paper, this is a dream matchup for Max Scherzer as he takes on the lowly Baltimore Orioles tonight.

However, Scherzer is still working to get back to full strength after spending time on the injured list. In his most recent outing, Scherzer only thew 71 pitches before taken out of the game. If you are going to spend that much salary on a single player, you want to ensure you are getting him at full strength, and Scherzer has indicated he's still at less than 100%.

Gerrit Cole ($12,000) is a more sensible high cost pitching option.

Jose Altuve, 2B, Houston Astros

FanDuel Price: $4,400

Jose Altuve is enjoying another highly productive season for the Houston Astros as they take on righty Ryan Yarbrough and the Tampa Bay Rays in tonight's matchup.

Altuve has a .346 wOBA against righties compared to an absurd .497 against lefties. Meanwhile, Yarbrough has held righties to a .233 wOBA and only five home runs in 82.2 innings this season.

Considering these numbers, save salary at the second base position with a player like Jeff McNeil ($3,100) and spend up elsewhere.

Nicholas Castellanos, 3B, Chicago Cubs

FanDuel Price: $3,600

After suffering from the negative effects of Comerica Park for years, Nick Castellanos has been on fire since joining the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline.

That being said, he is going up against flame-throwing righty Noah Syndergaard, who has held righties to a .290 wOBA this season. Castellanos has a 188 wRC+ against lefties but only a 104 wRC+ against righties. Don't let Castellanos' hot streak fool you -- leave him on the bench.

Shohei Ohtani ($3,400) is a viable option in his matchup against the Texas Rangers.
