3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Thursday 6/3/21

The Brewers have rarely been an offense to go out of the way to stack this year, but they are in a plus matchup tonight. Which other teams stand out?

Stacks are the backbone of cashing daily fantasy baseball lineups. Correlation drives upside, creating the potential to place high or even win GPPs when your selected stacks explode offensively.

This column will do the digging and the dirty work to determine which stacks are worth rostering each day. Scoring upside will fuel the stacks that get the nod. Sometimes that will lead to chalky selections, but contrarian stacks will get their fair share of love too.

Let's take a look at the top stacks on today's main slate.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers aren't a team I've suggested stacking often this year. They've struggled mightily offensively. However, they have a plus draw tonight.

Jon Duplantier has pitched 41 1/3 underwhelming innings in the Majors, recording a 4.79 ERA, 4.82 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA), and 1.60 WHIP, per FanGraphs. The young righty hasn't pitched well in two Triple-A starts spanning only seven innings this year, either, walking 14.7 percent of the batters he's faced while striking out only 11.8 percent of them en route to a 7.71 ERA.

My three favorite options for stacking from the Brewers tonight are the left-handed-hitting trio of Kolten Wong ($3,000), Christian Yelich ($3,900), and Omar Narvaez ($2,200).

Wong hits leadoff, and he's been a few ticks above average against righties since 2018, sporting a 106 weighted runs created plus (wRC+). Narvaez has been even better with a 121 wRC+ since 2018 and a 140 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers this season. Yelich is the top option in the stack, mashing righties for a .409 on-base percentage, .286 isolated power (ISO), and 161 wRC+ since 2018.

Chicago White Sox

Casey Mize has greatly improved upon an ugly debut last year. Still, his 3.28 ERA in 10 starts spanning 57 2/3 innings overstates how well he's pitching. His 4.32 SIERA is a better indicator of his true talent level, and I'm happy to stack against that mark with an above-average offense.

As a team, the Chicago White Sox rank sixth in wRC+ (108) against righties this year. They're in even better form than that lately, too. Over the last 30 days, they rank third in wRC+ (117).

The Pale Hose have much more stacking depth than the aforementioned Brewers. However, I'll specifically call your attention to Yoan Moncada ($3,900), Tim Anderson ($3,600), and Jose Abreu ($4,200), in that order, as my favorite stacking options.

Moncada's torching righties this year, amassing a .435 on-base percentage, .156 ISO, and 157 wRC+. Anderson's been sharp, too, with a 124 wRC+. Reigning American League Most Valuable Player Abreu hasn't been a slouch, either, with a 120 wRC+.

Minnesota Twins

Sticking to the theme of pitchers outperforming their peripherals, Kris Bubic's 1.52 ERA is over three runs lower than his 4.75 SIERA. The other shoe is bound to drop on a pitcher with a grotesque 6.9 percent strikeout minus walk percentage. A sub-20 percent strikeout rate and walk rate north of 12 percent is a recipe for disaster eventually.

The Minnesota Twins have the offense capable of starting the regression process in full force tonight. They boast a .190 ISO and 106 wRC+ against southpaws this year, and they've been a top-10 offense over the last 30 days, ranking tied for ninth in wRC+ (107).

The duo I'm honed in on is Josh Donaldson ($3,200) and Nelson Cruz ($3,500). The former has a .389 on-base percentage, .219 ISO, and 128 wRC+ against lefties since 2018 and a .392 on-base percentage, .163 on-base percentage, and 139 wRC+ against them this year. The latter is even better, with a .413 on-base percentage, .354 ISO, and 183 wRC+ since 2018 and a .373 on-base percentage, .218 ISO, and 156 wRC+ in 2021.

Honorable mentions and stacking consideration are also in order for Kyle Garlick ($2,600) and Miguel Sano ($2,600). Additionally, Andrelton Simmons ($2,100) offers sneaky wrap-around stack appeal from the ninth spot in the order.
