Adrian Beltre Hit Two Important Home Runs Last Night

Beltre homered twice last night, winning a game for the Rangers and letting him climb the all-time home run leaderboard.

Behind Alex Rodriguez (696), Albert Pujols (579), and David Ortiz (527), there's a sizable drop off to the next active player on the all-time home run list.

Entering last night's action, there was actually a three-way tie for 47th all-time between Mike Piazza and active sluggers Miguel Cabrera and Adrian Beltre, all of whom had belted 427 career home runs.

And Beltre probably has a personal vendetta against Cabrera, who once touched his head.


You should never try to touch his head.


Well, last night against the Athletics, Beltre got his revenge on Cabrera and pounded a seventh-inning homer off of John Axford to close a 6-4 gap to 6-5, going one-up on Cabrera's all-time homer total in the process.

Then, in the ninth inning, with Nomar Mazara on first, the same 6-5 deficit, two outs, and just a 10.4% chance to win the game, according to FanGraphs, Beltre did this.


His 429th career homer clinched the game for the Rangers -- who are now 58-42 and own a 70.1% chance to reach the playoffs -- and earned him some slight breathing room all alone at 47th all-time on the home run list.

And it helped his team win a game that they looked likely to lose since the first inning, per FanGraphs.
