New York Giants' Rushing Offense

All eyes will be on the New York Giants' passing offense this week, as well they should be. With Delvin Breaux out for the New Orleans Saints, an already-historically bad defense will be even worse, and you can bet Odell Beckham will get all up in that goodness.

Just don't forget about the guys running the ball.

The Saints -- to their credit -- seemed to acknowledge they needed some help stopping the rush over the offseason. They selected defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins 12th overall, figuring he could bop in and plug some holes right away.

He broke his fibula in the preseason and is on injured reserve.

The Saints finished 2015 ranked 23rd in Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per play, and Latavius Murray showed last week that things haven't changed much. He finished Week 1 ranked 5th in Rushing NEP per carry and 3rd in Success Rate among backs with at least 10 carries after finishing 38th and 42nd, respectively, in those two categories last year. He wasn't efficient in 2015, but that changed as soon as he got a matchup with the Saints. Rashad Jennings, on the other hand, was efficient last year, meaning he could be in an even better spot this week.

Jennings was seventh in Rushing NEP per carry in 2015, and he led the league in Success Rate. You won't see the Giants near the top of the leaderboards, though, because they decided to give efficiency-murking plodder Andre Williams 88 carries for some reason. This was a good rushing unit last year once you omit Williams from the equation, and it should give us confidence in Jennings for Week 2.

Jennings didn't find the end zone in Week 1, but there was plenty to like about his usage. He got 18 of the team's 24 carries and played 57% of the snaps even though the team trailed a good chunk of the second half. Dating back to last year, Jennings has averaged 19.4 carries and 3 targets per game over his past five games. His role is no longer in question, though his $6,300 price tag on FanDuel still includes some room for ambiguity. It shouldn't, and this is a dream matchup for a player like Jennings.

Jennings won't be sneaky at all this week, and he'll likely be one of the higher-owned running backs on the slate. However, the optimism in the passing game will help keep Jennings' ownership below where it should be, and that's what keeps him in play for both tournaments and cash games.
