2017 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting What Could Happen in the First Round
23. Giants: Cam Robinson, Offensive Tackle
Top Needs: QB, RB, TE, IOL
The New York Giants could go in a lot of ways here, but preserving their declining quarterback and assisting a lagging run game means an offensive lineman. While the linemen allowed the fourth-least Sack NEP in 2016, they were fifth-lowest in Rushing Success Rate. Alabama offensive tackle Cam Robinson is a necessity here.
Robinson was once thought to have the highest ceiling among tackles in this class, but many have since soured on his raw upside. Robinson is inconsistent to say the least: he shows power and elite potential as a run blocker, while his athleticism and tenacity to catch and fight pass-rushers can be groomed into at least an average pass blocker.
He allowed just 14 quarterback pressures in his final season against top-tier SEC talent. If he can clean up his instincts and work on his craft, Robinson’s tools are there to be successful.
