9. 49ers Acquire Ronde Barber During 1997 Draft

Most of us know Ronde Barber for being a long-time defensive star for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but were you aware that, for a hot minute, he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers?

On day one of the 1997 draft, the Philadelphia Eagles sent pick number 66 to the Niners in order to jump three spots and grab linebacker James Darling 57th overall. In doing so, they also added a sixth- and seven-rounder to their slate of picks. With their return, San Francisco selected Virginia cornerback Ronde Barber.

Darling (34 AV) represented the only relevant player on the Eagles side, as the two late-rounders fizzled out after rookie stints. But the same can't be said for Barber, who in 16 seasons racked up an AV of 151 as well as a Super Bowl XXXVII victory with the Bucs.

If only the Niners knew that this Barber dude would intercept 47 career passes, go to five Pro Bowls and make three All-Pro squads. Yeesh!
