Fantasy Football: One Breakout Candidate From Every NFL Team
DeVante Parker, WR, Miami Dolphins
Most of the stuff we said about Moncrief applies here, as well.
DeVante Parker has been a breakout waiting to happen for some time now, and while it hasn't yet occurred, he has improved his counting stats each season, making a nice leap last year.
Season | Targets | Receptions | Yards | Touchdowns |
---|---|---|---|---|
2015 | 50 | 26 | 494 | 3 |
2016 | 87 | 56 | 744 | 4 |
Parker's numbers could've been even better, but he was upstaged by a pair of unexpected breakouts from his teammates. Jay Ajayi's emergence gave the Miami Dolphins a quality ground game, and Kenny Stills nearly matched Parker's output, making big plays on the outside and finishing with nine touchdowns.
As it has been before, the offseason hype machine is all the way up on Parker, most notably with Miami's offensive coordinator calling for a "gigantic" year.
Parker still has the prototypical size (6'3", 212 pounds) and athleticism that helped make him a first-round pick back in 2015, and this could be the season he puts it all together. Going as WR37, the price seems fair, and he has a ceiling some other guys in that range (like Pierre Garcon, Randall Cobb and Eric Decker) will have trouble matching.
