Fantasy Football: 4 Things We Learned From Week 8
Deshaun Watson Is the Real Deal
There were reasons to doubt Deshaun Watson's skills over the last few weeks. Sure, he was producing elite numbers for fantasy football week after week, but he was doing so against subpar defenses. His schedule before the Texans' bye included defensive pushovers like the Titans, Patriots and Browns.
The best defense he faced since Week 2 was that of the Kansas City Chiefs, who have actually been surprisingly weak against opposing quarterbacks this year. Watson's 35 fantasy points that week mostly came from late-game production in hurry-up mode, so it seemed reasonable to doubt if he could keep up his pace.
The Seahawks were Watson's first big test, and boy did he pass with flying colors. In what may go down as the best game this season, Watson was superb in nearly leading Houston to the road upset. His four touchdown passes ran his streak of games with at least three passing touchdowns to four and helped the Texans post a whopping 38 points on the Legion of Boom.
Those 38 points were more than the 'Hawks conceded in their previous three games combined. Prior to Week 8, the Seahawks were giving up the 10th-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, per FantasyData.com. In other words, their defense is good.
And Watson shredded them.
At this point it feels safe to say that Watson is matchup proof. If you picked him up off the waiver wire, enjoy your fantasy QB1.
