Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are something of a strange case, but there's definitely room for volume.

Leonard Fournette and Carlos Hyde are still in town, but T.J. Yeldon is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Yeldon finished the 2018 season accounting for 25.0% of the Jags' rush attempts and 14.6% of their targets. That's good for a team-high 19.2% share of all of the opportunities (targets plus rush attempts) from the Jags' 2018 campaign.

Yes, his volume benefited in a big way from Fournette being limited to eight games, but that also wasn't the only reason he got work. Even in the seven games Yeldon played with Fournette active, he averaged 3.9 targets and 6.7 carries -- tallying a not-insignificant 10.6 opportunities per game. That's good for a 16-game pace of 62 targets and 107 carries.

Hyde, who the Jags could release while taking on no dead money according to Spotrac, also doesn't seem like a real candidate to step into Yeldon's role. Hyde and Fournette's fantasy value was mutually exclusive, and in five contests played alongside Fournette, Hyde averaged only 2.7 fantasy points on 6.0 opportunities per game. Even if they keep him around, he's not likely to soak up Yeldon's volume.

With no successors to Yeldon waiting in the wing, the Jags may work to bring him back. Invested in a first-round running back like Fournette, though, spending to keep Yeldon in town could easily be something they pass on.

Receiving backs are becoming more and more of a priority in the NFL, and 10 different teams had a running back see at least 15% of their targets last year. That could make a free agent acquisition difficult, and they may end up looking for Yeldon's successor in the draft.

Don't let Fournette and Hyde scare you, whether they keep Hyde around or not. If Jacksonville brings in a back who profiles well in the receiving game, they could immediately step into some fantasy-relevant volume.
