Brandin Cooks Could Be This Year’s Best Rookie Wideout

Though the Saints lost their matchup, rookie wideout Brandin Cooks was a monster.

The new Saints weapon caught seven balls for 77 yards and a touchdown – the only Saints receiver to find the end zone – and saw the second-most targets on the team (same number as Marques Colston), behind only Jimmy Graham.

Kenny Stills was out, which helped the target distribution for Cooks and New Orleans. However, the Saints have been high on Cooks all offseason, and his breakout performance could mean big things for a receiver on a team that consistently ranks as a top-five unit in terms of Passing Net Expected Points.

I do want to give a shoutout to rookie wideout Kelvin Benjamin, who put together an impressive game with six receptions, 92 yards and a score with Derek Anderson as his quarterback. It'll be a fun battle to see which rookie reigns supreme this year.
