5 Tight Ends to Target in Your Fantasy Football Draft
Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs
ADP: 56 (5.06)
At the top of the list as the first tight end I would target in drafts this season is the man they call "Zeus," Kansas City's Travis Kelce
Going at a reasonable draft day price compared to the two tight ends ahead of him in consensus rankings -- Rob Gronkowski (2.05) and Jimmy Graham (3.06) -- taking Kelce in the fifth round allows you to load up on positions with greater positional scarcity such as running back while still giving you a player who could finish the year at or near the top of the tight end standings at the fraction of the price.
An athletic freak, Kelce's 6' 5", 250-pound build and Pro Day measurables reveals that he's built from the same physically-dominant mold as the aforementioned Gronkowski and Graham.
As I mentioned in my previous analysis comparing Graham and Kelce, Kelce had nearly identical numbers to Graham in what was essentially Kelce's redshirt "rookie" season, amassing 862 yards and 5 touchdowns on essentially two-thirds the targets that Graham garnered. Beyond this, Kelce accumulated these TE1 numbers while sharing snaps with Anthony Fasano.
Admittedly at less than 100% last season coming off microfracture surgery, Kelce played last year on a strict snap count. Now at full health, and with Fasano now on the Titans, Kelce is set to be an every-down tight end for Kansas City.
And with Graham being traded to the run-heavy Seattle Seahawks, all this suggests that Kelce isn't just the cheaper player to acquire but might also be the one with the greater upside.
Given his potential to be an elite contributor at the tight end position this year, Kelce makes a fine addition to your team at his current ADP team once you've established your core in the first four rounds of the draft.
