5 Daily Fantasy Football Tournament Dart Throws for Week 9

Every week in DFS, there is a player who comes out of nowhere to be the slate-breaker. These seemingly incognito players can be game-changers if you manage to roster them during the right week.

Tournament-only fliers have plenty of appeal -- offering low ownership, below value pricing, cheap stacking options, roster flexibility, and underrated ceilings. The purpose of this article is to identify dart throws to take your shots on during the main slate on FanDuel.

John Brown, WR, Bills ($6,200)

Among Buffalo Bills pass catchers, only one player has an air yards share above 18%, per AirYards.com. That dude is John Brown, and his air yards share is all the way up at 34%. His 105.0 air yards per game ranks ninth among all receivers.

That alone is going to give him weekly GPP appeal as he's bound to hit for a big play or two at some point with that kind of usage.

The chunk plays could come this week with the Bills hosting Washington. As our Taylor Smith noted in his receiver-corner matchups piece, Josh Norman has been getting roasted this year. Per PlayerProfiler's metrics, Norman rates poorly across the board. Washington's defense as a whole checks in 25th in adjusted yards per attempt allowed on deep passes.

With 4.34 wheels, Brown can strike gold on just one snap.

Preston Williams, WR, Dolphins ($5,500)

There aren't many weeks when you want to mess with anyone on the Miami Dolphins. This week might be an exception.

The Dolphins' 19.25-point implied total isn't a horrific number by their standards, and they're up against a New York Jets defense that is allowing the seventh-most FanDuel points per game to wideouts.

Enter Preston Williams.

Williams has been featured heavily in the red zone this season, recording a 35.0% red zone target share, the second-highest number in the league. He also leads Miami in overall target share (21%) while narrowly trailing DeVante Parker in air yards share (31% to 29%). Over the past three games, Williams' air yards share is a team-best 34%.

You know Miami's pass-game weapons won't be popular, and Williams -- the top point-per-dollar play at receiver, per our models -- is capable of a big day in this spot.

Tarik Cohen, RB, Bears ($5,300)

Not many people are going to be excited to invest in this Chicago Bears offense right now, but as bad as they've looked since Mitchell Trubisky came back, they're in a decent spot on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles.

More accurately -- their pass game is in a good spot.

While they're tough on the run (fifth-best by our schedule-adjusted numbers), Philly is 12th-worst versus the pass. That's made them a pass-funnel defense, and it's led to them giving up the most FanDuel points per game to wideouts. Of course, Tarik Cohen is a running back, but if Chicago can't run the ball, the game will set up well for him.

Plus, Cohen is pretty much a receiver as his 46 targets rank fourth among all running backs and are the same number of targets that JuJu Smith-Schuster has. Cohen would benefit greatly from Chicago getting behind as he's seen 10, 7, 12 and 3 targets in the Bears' four losses, with the three-target game coming last week in a contest that was close throughout. Chicago trailed for most of the game in their other three losses.

Mike Williams, WR, Chargers ($5,700)

Mike Williams has been so blah this year, totaling no more than 10.4 FanDuel points in any game. He doesn't have a touchdown this season, and he's posted between 69 and 74 yards in three of the last four weeks, with a 47-yard game mixed in.

But once you pop the hood and check out some other numbers, things don't look so bad.

For starters, he's been unlucky not to find the end zone despite having 419 yards. Of course, he scored 10 times on 664 yards in 2018. He's also seeing good usage. Over the last three games (so accounting for Hunter Henry's return), Williams owns a 20% target share and 30% air yards share. He also leads the Los Angeles Chargers in red zone target share (25.0%) and target share inside the 10 (26.3%).

The matchup this week isn't easy as LA "hosts" the Green Bay Packers, but Green Bay's defense has slowed after a red-hot start to the year, giving up 463 pass yards to Dak Prescott, 293 and two scores to Derek Carr, and 267 and two scores to Matt Moore.

Curtis Samuel, WR, Panthers ($5,600)

With Kyle Allen under center, Curtis Samuel has become the top wideout for the Carolina Panthers.

Samuel has been targeted on 23.7% of Allen's pass attempts, compared to 21.8% for D.J. Moore. Samuel also has a big advantage in air yards share, seeing 42.7% of the air yards from Allen, with Moore at 28.8%

The Tennessee Titans are 10th in deep-ball defense, so Samuel could turn his usage into fantasy goodness in this matchup.
