3 Fantasy Football Tight End Streaming Options for Week 7

We are almost halfway done with the fantasy football regular season. I'm not crying. You're crying.

But I will put on a brave face. It's time to give the people what they want, nay, crave -- tight end streamers. The good ones.

Throughout the season, this column should/will/must be your go-to resource for identifying tight ends to stream when you're in a pinch. Based on monitoring 12-team Yahoo! roster percentages, everyone listed will be rostered in fewer than 60% of Yahoo! leagues.

It was not a good week for tight end injuries. Jonnu Smith left the game with an ankle injury and seems truly questionable for Week 7. Zach Ertz has already been ruled out for this coming week and beyond. Noah Fant and Mo Alie-Cox never ended up suiting up. Tyler Eifert re-aggravated his neck injury.

It was, however, another great week for this column! Austin Hooper delivered for the second straight week. He's now rostered in 60% of leagues, but if you've been tuning in then you already scooped him up.

Jimmy Graham was second on the team with eight targets but was vultured on a touchdown by rookie Cole Kmet, so we can feel good about the process there.

Meanwhile, Trey Burton was rostered in just 1% of leagues but hit paydirt twice and dropped the TE3 line of Week 6. I don't know about you, but that's pretttttttty good for a streaming recommendation. I even called out Darren Fells as a stream if Jordan Akins was out again, and Fells was the TE5 on the week.

As bye weeks ramp up, identifying usable streamers will become even more valuable. The Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, and Indianapolis Colts are all on bye this week, though, of course, we'll need to monitor any potential COVID-induced byes for other teams. That leaves us without Mark Andrews, Michael Gesicki, the emerging Irv Smith Jr., and our new lord and streaming savior, Trey Burton.

It usually takes a good six weeks before positional points allowed data is somewhat reliable. Now that we're there, I'll lean a bit heavier on points allowed to the position in this process where applicable. In the end, though, we're chasing opportunity.

We're not exactly shooting fish in the barrel with tight end streamers, but we'll aim for more successful plays in Week 7.

Logan Thomas, TE, Washington Football Team

Roster Percentage: 15%

Look, I don't like it either. But it is THIN out here streaming at tight end in Week 7. So why not get weird with it? After all, both Robert Tonyan and Trey Burton were rostered in just 1% of leagues when recommended in this article before their blow-up games. Crazier things have happened.

At least we know Logan Thomas has a role and a semblance of a floor and ceiling. Thomas is averaging just four targets per game in Kyle Allen's starts, though most of the first start turned into Alex Smith running for his life.

This past week, Allen found Thomas in the back of the end zone for a nice touchdown grab. More importantly, Allen has been surprisingly competent and the matchup is good. Pending Monday Night's results, the Dallas Cowboys have allowed the seventh-most points to Thomas' position despite facing a ho-hum list of tight ends to date. Dallas also continues to play at a high pace, so this game has shootout potential.

With a clear role in a game that should result in a decent amount of points, Thomas is back on the streaming radar this week.

Eric Ebron, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers

Roster Percentage: 53%

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. So it's possible Eric Ebron is driving me insane.

Ebron has whiffed twice before when recommended here, and he's coming off just two catches for nine yards. It's worth noting, however, that Ben Roethlisberger only needed 22 pass attempts and 162 yards to cruise to victory this past weekend against the Cleveland Browns. On top of that, touchdown variance bit back at the Steelers passing game, as three different Pittsburgh players ran in for scores.

Ebron actually still had a TE1-caliber 18.2% target share in the game and had averaged 6 targets per game over the previous three contests. So he clearly has a usable role. And with the also-5-0 Tennessee Titans up next, it's unlikely Pittsburgh can win again with such little production through the air.

In fact, with how well the Titans offense is playing and how porous its defense is, this game has massive blow-up potential. It entered the week with a 52.5 total and could still rise from there.

Tennessee has been roasted by tight ends and just allowed the aforementioned TE5 performance by Darren Fells. One last time back to the well with Ebron before I'm declared insane.

Anthony Firkser, TE, Tennessee Titans

Roster Percentage: 0%

On the other side of the ball is former Harvard grad Anthony Firkser, who went nuts and dropped the best TE score of the week, and one of the better tight end performances of the season. You can read more about Firkser in this week's waiver wire column.

Ultimately, this one comes down to the health of Jonnu Smith. Per Adam Schefter, Smith has a minor ankle sprain and is questionable for Sunday. We'll need to monitor practice reports closely this week. If Smith -- a top-five tight end this season -- is out Sunday, Firkser is an automatic starter. It's also possible Firkser's performance on Sunday earned him more snaps moving forward, perhaps forcing Tennessee to run more two-tight end sets.

Bonus: Dallas Goedert, Darren Fells & Richard Rodgers

Again featured in this week's waiver column, this is your reminder that Dallas Goedert (41%) is set to be activated off injured reserve this week. With Zach Ertz out, Goedert is immediately a top-eight option, assuming he's practicing in full.

The caveat here is the Philadelphia Eagles play Thursday night, so it's a really short week. If Goedert is eased back in due to the short practice week, Packers legend Richard Rodgers (0%) is staring at a pretty big role. Rodgers actually has two three-catch games on his resume over the last three weeks, so there's a semblance of a floor here given the state of the position.

In fact, regardless of Goedert's health, Rodgers should see the field plenty. Due to a combination of scheme and wide receiver injuries, Philly leads the league in two tight end sets, and it's not even close. The Eagles run 12 personnel on a whopping 47% of its offensive plays, per Sharp Football Stats. The next highest in the league is 30%.

If Goedert is out or can't practice on a short week, Rodgers is a legitimate desperation streamer and one-game DFS punt on the Thursday slate.

Now seemingly a mainstay of this article, you know the drill with Darren Fells. He's been a top-six option the last two weeks with Jordan Akins out.

If Akins is out again, Fells is a must-play outside of George Kittle, Travis Kelce, Darren Waller, T.J. Hockenson, and Hunter Henry. If Akins is back, the situation is worth monitoring to see if Fells has still taken over a full-time role given his recent production and the 'new' coaching staff.
