Super Bowl Futures Betting Update: Week 3

A huge win on Sunday night boosted the Ravens' title chances both with oddsmakers and numberFire's model. Who else saw movement after Week 2?

Two weeks down, 16 more to go. The second week of NFL fixtures produced a number of results that had a huge impact on many team's seasons, not least their prospect of lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of the campaign. These changes, such as they are, are reflected in each team's latest odds to win the Super Bowl, courtesy of the NFL odds.

The team that saw their Super Bowl-winning odds shorten the most was the Carolina Panthers. Before their Week 2 game against the New Orleans Saints, they could be had at odds of +7500. But after they dismantled their NFC South rivals, the Panthers' odds came all the way down to +5000. They also saw their odds of victory jump according to numberFire metrics. By our numbers, the Panthers had a 0.7% chance of winning the big game before Week 2. Now, we give them a 2.1% chance. Hey, it's something!

The Baltimore Ravens also rose in the betting after their Week 2 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Ravens are currently available at +1400, making them the sixth-most favored team in the NFL. Before they locked horns with the Chiefs, they were available at +1800. The Ravens enjoyed a 4.9% increase in their numberFire odds too, and now sit as the third-most fancied team in the AFC.

At the other end of the scale, the Miami Dolphins suffered quite a fall in the betting after they were put to the sword by the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. They have dropped all the way to +4400 from +3200 a week ago. Their 2.6% odds by our metrics have fallen all the way to 0.4%. The injury suffered by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa against the Bills has the potential to completely derail their season, and another loss this week to the feisty Las Vegas Raiders would see their odds fall even more dramatically.
