10 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets Heading Into Week 6

Which fantasy football waiver-wire additions should you make ahead of Week 6?

Here are some of the best pickups you can make for your squads this week. (I'll stick to players rostered on no more than 60% of Yahoo teams and also list some other viable pickups who may be available in shallower leagues or relevant only in deeper leagues.)

Quarterbacks

Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks

Roster Percentage: 34%

Geno Smith isn't the only Seattle Seahawks player worth targeting, but we'll focus on him first among quarterbacks.

Smith has multiple passing touchdowns in four of five games and just two total interceptions. He accrued 268 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 25 attempts in an efficient game against a good New Orleans Saints defense in Week 5.

This week, he faces the Arizona Cardinals in a home game in which the over/under is set at 50.5 points early in the week. The Cardinals have allowed 259.4 yards and 1.3 touchdowns per game to opposing quarterbacks.

Smith is a primary streaming option for Week 6 when there aren't too many answers to that very question.

Running Backs

Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks

Roster Percentage: 44%

With news that Rashaad Penny's fractured tibia may require surgery, Kenneth Walker III should be set for an extended role for quite some time.

In Week 5, Penny left after 15 snaps. Walker handled 26 offensive snaps with DeeJay Dallas playing just 10. Travis Homer remains on injured reserve for two more weeks, so the path is clear for Walker to dominate early-down work in this offense.

Walker ended Week 5 with 8 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown. He didn't get a target but did run 12 routes, besting Dallas' 6. He's the top priority for the week.

Brian Robinson, Washington Commanders

Roster Percentage: 60%

Right at the cutoff, we have Brian Robinson. Robinson led the Washington Commanders in carries with 9 in his NFL debut but did play just 16 snaps (27.6%). Although he may not break into a featured role immediately, it's clear that Antonio Gibson is not the answer for a huge workload, either. Gibson's snap rate has waned in each week of the season, and he played on just 32.8% of the snaps this week for Washington.

All indications are that Robinson will settle into an early-down role for this team sooner rather than later.

Mike Boone, Denver Broncos

Roster Percentage: 36%

Although the raw box score didn't show much for Mike Boone, he did get 7 carries and 3 targets while running one more route (19) than Melvin Gordon (18). In total, Boone had a respectable 42.3% snap rate, so there are reasons to be eyeing Boone even in shallower leagues.

Gordon has not been a difference-maker with his opportunities, so Boone should be rostered in most situations -- especially with a matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers looming on Monday night. The Chargers have allowed 1.90 yards over expectation per carry to opposing running backs this season. No other team is above a 1.15.

Wide Receivers

Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots

Roster Percentage: 47%

Jakobi Meyers returned to action after a two-week absence in Week 5. He led the New England Patriots with routes (20) and targets (8) for 7 catches and 111 yards -- plus a touchdown.

Although this isn't the most fantasy-friendly offense, in three games while healthy, Meyers has managed a target share of 31.8% with an air yards share of 41.6%. He's averaging 9.0 targets per contest, with a healthy 4.3 of those traveling at least 10 yards downfield.

The biggest drawback for Meyers is overall team efficiency and red zone trips, but he's clearly the top receiving option for the Pats when healthy.

Michael Gallup, Dallas Cowboys

Roster Percentage: 51%

It seemed likely that the Dallas Cowboys would get Dak Prescott back for Week 6, yet that may have taken a turn. Prescott's return would put the arrow way up on this offense.

Even with Cooper Rush, we can look to add a Dallas pass-catcher this week.

Michael Gallup returned in Week 4 to run a route on 82.1% of the team's drop backs. In Week 5, he played on just 54.7% of the team's snaps but extended his route rate to 89.5%. It's no bother that he's not out there for run-blocking duties while he works his way back.

Now, in two games, he has maintained a 19.0% target share and is a week or two away from the return of a difference-making quarterback.

George Pickens, Pittsburgh Steelers

Roster Percentage: 55%

A Pat Freiermuth injury might open up more opportunity for George Pickens in the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense, but Pickens' arrow was already trending up entering Week 5.

Pickens has actually run a route on at least 79.3% of the Steelers' drop backs in every game so far this season. Though Kenny Pickett hasn't been flawless by any means to start the season, that's not all that matters for someone such as Pickens.

Pickens has a catch rate over expectation of 8.3%, according to NextGenStats. Teammates Diontae Johnson (-4.4%) and Chase Claypool (-7.5%) have been less impressive. That means Pickens is involved already -- and performing well. That's a recipe for an increased role moving forward.

Rondale Moore, Arizona Cardinals

Roster Percentage: 18%

Although Rondale Moore's usage is not very typical for an NFL receiver, it can get the job done in fantasy football.

Last season, Moore's average depth of target was shorter than any receiver's since 2008 at 1.3 yards. In Week 4, Moore's average depth of target was 9.9 yards. In Week 5, it fell to 2.2.

Those may not lead to explosive plays often, but they are good for churning out solid production. A fun matchup with the Seattle Seahawks awaits.

Tight Ends

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints

Roster Percentage: 28%

The Taysom Hill conundrum is back on the menu. Hill has tight end eligibility in Yahoo! formats, and that means that we need to take a look at his current role.

Hill, in Week 5, handled 9 carries for 112 yards and generated 3 rushing touchdowns. He didn't draw a target on either of his two routes, but his status as a wildcat quarterback in the red zone makes him a fantasy football cheat code for teams that need to fill the tight end role.

Hayden Hurst (29%), Irv Smith Jr. (49%), Evan Engram (24%), Logan Thomas (17%)

Defenses

New Orleans Saints D/ST

Roster Percentage: 49%

Yes, the New Orleans D/ST is hosting the Cincinnati Bengals, and that sounds like an offense we'd typically want to avoid. However, Joe Burrow has sustained an 8.6% sack rate this season, 2.3 percentage points above the NFL average of 6.3%. Burrow has been sacked at least twice in four of five games and at least six times in two of five matchups.

There's upside for some havoc here in a game that should feature a lot of drop backs from a good -- albeit enigmatic -- quarterback.

There are some safer plays who may or may not be available: Baltimore D/ST (63% at the New York Giants) and the Los Angeles Chargers D/ST (57% versus the Denver Broncos).
