Chiefs still want to ink Chris Jones long-term

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach expressed the team's desire to sign defensive lineman Chris Jones to a long-term deal.

What It Means:

“The deadline to get a deal done is July 15," Veach said. "So there’s a lot of time to continue dialogue and to work on something with Chris, but we certainly are going to work to retain him, not just for next year, but for the future.” The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Jones a month ago. He's recorded 24.5 sacks and 49 quarterback hits in 29 games over the past two seasons.

Jones recorded 9.0 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, and 27 pressures last season. He graded as Pro Football Focus' fifth-best interior defender out of 57 players at the position with at least 500 snaps.
