Ito Smith to work out in Atlanta with Matt Ryan, offense

Atlanta Falcons running back Ito Smith told plans to travel to Atlanta to throw with quarterback Matt Ryan and other skill-position players.

What It Means:

Smith has been training in Houston. It sounds like he's fully recovered from a neck injury that forced him to miss the final nine games of the season. Smith remains second on the depth, now behind Todd Gurley, but he could wind up in the lead spot if Gurley's knee issues persist. The 2018 fourth-round pick Smith has a total of 112 carries for 421 yards and 5 touchdowns through his first two years in the league, plus 38 receptions and 239 receiving yards.

numberFire's models project Smith for 70.7 carries, 294.1 rushing yards, 20.6 receptions, 148.7 receiving yards, and 2.9 touchdowns. He's the RB58 in our preseason fantasy rankings. Smith added 0.18 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt last season, most among four Falcons backs with at least 10 carries and well above the league average for running backs (-0.01).
