Nick Mullens shifting to Vikings backup role
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens will not start in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, per head coach Kevin O'Connell.
Mullens will move to backup duty after starting the past two games. He completed 48 of 69 pass attempts for 714 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. Fifth-round rookie Jaren Hall will take over for the Vikings and likely be a downgrade for Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison (ankle).
Mullens' average depth of target (10.6 yards) is more than twice as long as Hall's (4.1), so the Vikings' receivers will need to work after the catch to put up yards. They will have a plus matchup against the fourth-worst pass defense in the league, according to numberFire's opponent-adjusted efficiency rankings.
